Daniel Wissmann Obituary

Wissmann, Pastor Daniel John

Pastor Daniel John Wissmann, age 67 of Appleton, WI passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at his home. He has passed from this life to eternal glory after fighting a 23 year battle with a brain tumor. He was given 2 years to live with no hope in 1990.

Daniel was born on December 6, 1946 to John and Adela (Schwartz) Wissmann in Shawano, WI. He was a member of Shepherd of the River, New London and Bethlehem Lutheran in rural Pella, Shawano County, WI. He attended a one room school house in rural Pella, Clintonville Middle School and High School. Then on to Wartburg College and during his Junior year he received a full scholarship to the University of Boone. He graduated from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, IA. Daniel married Camille Johnson on August 22, 1971 at Birka Lutheran Church, rural Washburn, ND. He was ordained at his home church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church in rural Pella in June of 1973, and celebrated 40 years in ministry this year. Daniel preached German and English at his internship at St. John Lutheran, Wishek, ND, and at his first parish at St. John's Lutheran Church at Windsor, CO. He also served parishes at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Bismark, ND, St. John Lutheran in Royal, IL, was a hospice chaplain for one year at Brommen Hospital in Normal, IL, served at Immanuel Lutheran in Lincoln, IL, and was an interim pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran in Decatur, IL. In Wisconsin he served as a visitation and supply pastor at Zion Lutheran in Oshkosh. Daniel retired in 2007 from the ministry. He loved to travel and enjoyed fishing, tandem biking, and woodworking. His family is so thankful for the support of his former and present congregations and considered them part of their extended family. They are also grateful for the support and truly loving and devoted care of Dr. David Shinkunas of Encircle Health and of Hospice Advantage and Morton Pharmacy.

Daniel is survived by his wife Camille, sons; Luke (fiance Irina Alexeeva) Wissmann & Paul (Ming) Wissmann, brother; John (Nancy) Wissmann, brother-in-law; Ronald (Erlinda) Johnson, as well as nephews, nieces, grand-nieces, and grand nephews. He also had been supported in his suffering by his Christian families in his present and former congregations and dear friends. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents.

Camille and family,

Dan dedicated his life to God and it was an honor to know him. He faced the hardships of life with grace and dignity. He will be missed by the many churches he served and the lives he touched.

Our deepest sympathy, Camille.

Camille - Pastor Wissmann was a special person to me and my husband. He was there when my husband was fighting the same battle as Pastor Dan. You and your family are in my prayers.
