John Allen Obituary

John C. Allen

Neenah - John Caleb Allen passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Wednesday evening, October 24, 2018. He was surrounded by his family who love him deeply and miss him dearly. He was born on May 9, 1926 in London, England to Caleb William Allen and Dorothy Eliza Allen (nee Smith). Preceded in death by his parents and sister Peggy, he is survived by Dorothy, his loving wife of 63 years, three children: Dr. Susan (Michael Sajbel) Allen, Menasha, Peter (Margaret) Allen, Neenah, and Elizabeth Allen Klutz, Sale, UK, and nine grandchildren, Anastasia, Catherine and Ben Sajbel, John (Lauren) Allen, Sarah (Justin) Young, Claire Allen, Austin, Eliot, and Nathaniel Klutz.

By God's providence he survived childhood disease and a traumatic accident. He lived in London with his family through the war years of 1939-1945, experiencing first-hand the nightly terrors of the German Blitz. Through it all, he survived and thrived; in many ways shaped by the hardships of his youth.

The son of a car dealer, and the grandson of a horse trader, he was the first in his family to attend university. Having a love of mechanical things from an early age, he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from London University in 1946. He was a skilled machinist, and loved to work with his hands.

He served in the British Army from 1946 to 1948. He met Dorothy Kirkwood in 1953 and they married in 1955. He was a devoted husband and father, always putting aside his own interests to serve the needs of his family.

He joined Cellucotton Products (Later Kimberly-Clark Limited) in Aylesford, Kent (UK) in October, 1955. In 1970, he accepted a position with Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Neenah. The move proved permanent, and in 1980 both John and Dorothy were proud to become American citizens.

John retired from Kimberly-Clark in 1991 after more than 35 years of service. During his career with K-C he traveled extensively, helping establish operations in new locations throughout the world. He was loved and respected for his helpful demeanor and practical approach.

A member of Calvary Bible Church in Neenah since the early 1970s, he served in many capacities, including more than 15 years in a volunteer role as Minister of Missions. Those under his care were well-served by his global awareness and his personal attention to their needs and a detailed understanding of their work.

By his own account, his spiritual journey began in August of 1941 at a summer camp. For the first time, he recognized his own shortcomings and spiritual need. He put his faith in Christ and never looked back.

John Allen remained committed to his wife, his family and his Savior until the day he died.

Well done, good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:23).

A service celebrating the life of John Allen will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, October 29 at Calvary Bible Church, 1450 Oakridge Rd, in Neenah, with Rev. Dr. Harry Shields officiating. The visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until the hour of service. A reception will follow the service.

Donations in memory of John may be made to Villages of Hope in Zambia, a ministry to children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. https://www.akclivillageofhope.com/

The family wishes to thank all those who faithfully visited John in his last years. Special thanks to the staff at Brewster Village for their extraordinary care and concern. The dignity and respect they demonstrated will never be forgotten.

I became acquainted with John as a volunteer at Brewster Village. What an endearing man with a beautiful spirit and gentle wit. He had a special sparkle in his eyes whenever he smiled.

Our condolences to Dorothy and family for your loss. John was an exceptional and selfless man, an excellent engineer, a sincere mentor and friend. He helped many individuals and companies throughout his many years with the Kimberly-Clark family, unfortunately with less recognition than he truly deserved.

Dorothy, Sue, Pete, and Liz, my heart aches for you all as you mourn the loss of a most beloved husband and father. Oh, the memories I carry of him and your family are ones I cherish every day. So many around the world were blessed, ministered to and found the saving gospel of Christ because of how he lived his life everyday. May God's grace and mercy abound in the time ahead as you continue life without John. I so wished I could have been with you all yesterday. Much love to the Allen Family, Julie David Bechtold

We were just two of the many missionaries that John served well during his time as Minister of Missions at Calvary Bible Church. His friendliness, kindness, and godliness was so encouraging to us as rookies. We look forward to seeing you again John! Well done good and faithful servant!

Peter and all your family. I was sorry to read of John's passing. I knew and worked with him at Kimberly-Clark, and always enjoyed it. He was an intelligent and friendly guy, always willing to help with the job, and always knew what had to be done and how to do it. I missed him when he retired, and know he is now happy again above us all.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
I felt very fortunate to have known John, such a gentle and kind soul. Dorothy and John were such great role models for all to emulate. Their devotion to each other was to be envied and admired. May God bless you Dorothy and all of your dear family.
Lovingly, Joyce Edwards, formerly of Touchmark.

Despite the fact that we were so sorry to hear of John's passing, we are rejoicing with him as He is in the loving arms of His Savior, singing with the angels at the throne of his Lord and praising along with all the saints that have gone before. I know the impact that he made on the many lives he touched on this earth will live on. I am one of those that he touched. Praising God for John and his faithful walk. May all the family be comforted in the days ahead.

I member Mr Allen as far back as the 80s growing up at Calvary Bible have learn so much from me

October 27, 2018

I am so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful gentleman. I would go to Brewster Village to visit my son's mother-in-law Cecelia. They spent a lot of time together visiting outside in the sunshine. When I would be going through the halls to the Depot section I would see John so often. I would say hello to John and ask how he was doing. He would always answer with a smile, All the better for seeing you. I loved his response with that accent and never got sick of it. My son and his family will miss seeing him weekly along with their lab Autumn who came with them. I will miss him very much. I am sending prayers to the family. John is now greeting everyone as they enter the gates of Heaven. You now have an angel watching over all of you. Love to all.

My Dad, Louis Juracek, was a dear friend of John's. They met through their work with Kimberly Clark when my Dad went to England in the early 60s. Their friendship continued while they both were working in Neenah. Though they never saw each other for years they always exchanged Christmas Cards and my Dad always shared with me his memories of the wonderful times they had together. I remember dinners at our house with the Allens. Such a beautiful family and such a great loss. Sending Susan and all the family our deepest condolences.

I am sure he will hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant!" He and Dorothy together touched the lives of nearly everyone they met, investing time, energy and resources in their lives. It has been a privilege to know this couple who modeled Christ-like attitudes, and true partnership in marriage. John will be deeply missed, but leaves a legacy of love that will continue through his family and friends.

John was a blessing to Les and my lives. As we served overseas as missionaries he and Dorothy prayed for us and encouraged us.

We enjoyed many meals in their home and enjoyed small group prayer meetings there as well. We look forward to spending eternity together with John worshiping the Savior we love.
