June Krieck Obituary

Krieck, June Porlier

June Porlier Krieck passed away in Henderson, Nev., on Jan. 30, at age 96. She was born on June 16, 1917, in St. Paul, Minn., to Georges and Janette Porlier. Her father was one of the first American Indians to become a chiropractor in the U. S. He later became the President of the St. Paul College of Chiropractic. Her mother was a nurse for almost 50 years at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, Wis.

June graduated from Appleton High School and Augustana College of Nursing in Chicago and also worked as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth. She married her childhood sweetheart, Karl Krieck, who along with his father, Walter, and brothers, Gilbert and Kerm, owned Krieck Furs on College Avenue for many years.

Through the years June and Karl owned homes on Randall Street, Glendale Avenue, River Drive, and Windfield Place. Eventually they moved into Appleton Retirement Community, where they spent many happy years.

One of June's fondest memories was spending their 50th wedding anniversary in San Diego. She always said she liked the limo ride better than the fancy dinner. She loved trying new things and never lost her intellectual curiosity or sense of humor. Her daughter asked her — at age 95 — who her favorite movie star was. She expected an answer like "Clark Gable," but her mother said "Johnny Depp."

She was preceded in death by husband, Karl, and brother, Warner Porlier.

She is survived by a daughter, Jan Porlier Lane of Henderson, grandsons, Chris (Marianne), Tony and Greg, and great-granddaughters, Savannah, Kiani and Maile, and 12 nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Appleton Retirement Community, Del Mar Gardens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Creekside Hospice Care.

The family is planning a memorial service in California this spring.

Clay Porlier

June 18, 2014

Hi Jan and family,

My name is Clay Porlier. My father was Matthew Porlier, June's half-brother. I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds as though June lived a full and happy life, which is a wonderful thing. Matt passed away last October, his wife Margaret passing away about a year prior. My condolences to you and your family.

Hello Jan and family. I'm Dave Schuh, who used to live next to you and your folks on Glendale Avenue. You may remember us--my sisters Charlotte & Barb, and my brother Andy & I. Clarence & Margaret were our folks. Charlotte passed away last year, and Andy in 2005, but Barb (Murphy now) and I still live in Appleton. We wish to express our sincerest sympathy to you for the passing of your mother. She was a wonderful person and a dear friend. Your dad was a super guy, too. I actually visited them/took some gladiolus from my brother Andy to them at their senior apartment some years ago--we had a nice visit then. Please accept our deepest condolances on your loss.
