Bishop Packer was a great man! It was an honor and blessing to have him and his wife serve in the singles ward I attended. He was kind, patient, and understanding. Prayers and hugs to Valerie and her children!

We knew Joe as a young man when he became part of the wonderful Clements family. He adored Valerie and Valerie adored him. We loved their dedication to each other and to their family. He became a friend to us and we enjoyed hearing about them through the years. Our hearts are sad with his passing; not for him because we know he is just fine. We know how much his sweetheart, children, and grandchildren need him still. We pray they will feel him near, carry on his happy, gospel-centered ways, and know they will be together again. We love you.

I met Joe when we were hired to work for church security. I have fond memories of our training days up to the day he retired. We ate dinner together during our shift for years and I cherish the memories of the great conversations we had about the Gospel and life. He was dear friend, a good example, and I will always remember his kindness to me.

Joe’s family lived next door to us in Hailey. Our families built houses approximately the same time in what became known as Mormonville. I am so sorry for your loss to all of The Packer Family. Thank heaven for the Plan of Salvation. May Heavenly Father bring you comfort at this time.

The Packers were our neighbors when they lived in Bountiful. We had a 4 foot chainlink fence that separated our yards. I had a lot of very young children at the time. One day I was washing dishes and watching the kids play in the back yard through the window. As kids do, they started to fight over a toy. The toy dropped, made a loud noise and caused one child to scream. All of a sudden Joe hopped the fence like a deer and ran towards the noise. It was pretty impressive. I ran out to apologize and thank him. I almost wished there had been an emergency to validate his heroic response. I don't think he talked to me for a month. But my kids remember him for bringing home the end bolts of paper from church security and for being the olympic class pole vaulter that lived next door. His family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

My name is Alex Jubitz and I worked with Joe in church security and I helped him move to Idaho from Bountiful. Joe trained me as a new security officer for the church and I remember plain as day all the walking he made me do to the point that I had blisters on both feet. But I was determined to keep up with him as I was only 26 years old. Joe is a great man with high morals and standards that led him to be the man that he was. I wish his family comfort and peace as they continue loving and caring for each other.
