Kristy Geisler Obituary

Kristy Johansson Geisler

May 18, 1959 - September 19, 2021

Of Pleasant Grove, Utah

Kristy was the only girl in a family of six children. She loved reading and playing Barbies, just as much as she enjoyed digging forts and playing backyard baseball with her brothers. She was never told she couldn't do anything because she was a girl, and so never recognized any role differences between men and women. After high school, she married and moved to Washington where her oldest son Courtney was born. She then returned to Utah and her son Michael was born in Salt Lake City.

Her family has been the most important thing and she worked hard to provide a nice home and lifestyle to her children. Her pride and joy were her sons, and she loved it when they married beautiful women who became her best friends. Her life became truly full when her grandchildren were born and became part of her life, Jaycob, Sydney, Chaise Marie, Carter, and Colin.

Kristy and the boys relocated from Utah to Idaho, where she went to help with a family-owned radio station. In Rexburg she became the Advertising Director for the Rexburg Standard Journal, starting her brilliant career in media .

Kristy moved to Carlsbad, NM, where she met the love of her life and soulmate, Randy Geisler, this year marking their 23 year Anniversary. Her and RG returned to Idaho to start two businesses. While there she returned to the Standard Journal to become Associate Publisher. Kristy advanced her career as community leader and soon became Community Affairs Director. In that role, she wrote grants that helped the Rexburg Tabernacle Civic Center, the Romance Theater, and Porter Park's Spray Park. She was active with the Arts in Rexburg council and the Teton Flood Museum.

In 2010, She returned to the Standard Journal as the publisher. She loved the people she worked with and enjoyed the fact the newspaper was the primary source of news and information to the Upper Valley. While at the newspaper she was highly active within the community serving as a board member to Madison Economic Partners, a member of Rotary Club and a past board member, and the 2005 President of the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce.

Randy and Kristy moved to Mesa, Arizona to be closer to her sons. In 2017, She was highly sought after to be the publisher of the Claremore Daily Progress in Claremore, OK. Kristy took on many new challenges and goals. Her first goal when she arrived in Claremore was to meet every business owner in the City of Claremore. She served on many boards and community civics clubs. The one she is most proud of was the Development and Fundraising Chair, and the Executive Committee of the Will Rogers Memorial Foundation. She was integral in the fundraising efforts that renovated the Will Rogers Theater.

She loved spending time outdoors with Randy. They would golf, (2 holes in one), fish, travel, camp, and especially loved spending time with their grand children. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She held a strong testimony of the gospel. She especially loved her visiting teacher, Christen Hartvigsen.

She is survived by her loving husband Randy Geiser of 23 years, her stepson Jayson Geisler (Emily), Sons Courtney Johansson (Lori) and Michael Johansson (Ashlee), and 5 grand children. She is preceded in death by her parents Sune and Glenda Johansson and brother Kayle Johansson.

She became good friends with Layla Freeman the CEO of Light of Hope in Claremore OK. In place of flowers the Family requests in the spirit of Kristy that a small donation is made in her name at https://www.lightofhope.org/donate.

Under the current pandemic delays and complications, a private family graveside service will be held in Pleasant Grove, Utah where she will be laid to rest with her parents and her brother.

Kristy and I were friends from grade school until the day she passed. We have stayed in touch on and off throughout the years but more recently and I have so enjoyed her sense of humor and sharing stories of our children and grandchildren. One of the greatest gifts our Lord gifts to us is that of friendship. Kristy had that gift and shared it openly and well. Many of us will miss you feisty, loving, messages of friendship. God speed my friend.

We grew up decades apart but both in Pleasant Grove Utah, just down the street. We both made this connection and learned this fact when we met here in Claremore Oklahoma. It was a good friendship from the start. She was always reaching out seeing how our family was doing and bringing stuff for us and our young family. We love her and Randy and will miss her.
