For my friend Dar on her 56th birthday (02/10/08).
"A true friend is one who knows all about you - and likes you anyway!" Thank you for being my friend.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Dear Aunt Norma, Karen, Josie, Tom, Beth Janelle,P.J. and Families,
Darlene was more than just my cousin. She was also my friend. Her and I had such great times on her many trips to Florida. When I came to N.Y. for visits she always made it a point to see me and take me out for something special. Not to mention our countless hours on the internet together. How I will miss her. Please accept my deepest sympathy. My Love and Prayers to you all.

I saw you both tonite at the wake. You have both become beautiful women. Your mom is in both of you. live happy and live your life to the fullest. She will live on through both of you. Your mom touched my life in many of ways, and that will always remain with me. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of all of your lives. I wish you a smile and a bit of laughter through your times of sorrow. Your mom would definatelly want to see the smiles, and the matching clothes were a BIG hit. She loved doing that to you when you were young. haha. thinking of all of you. Lynn Pliscofsky

Janelle and PJ,
I am so sorry for your loss…the world has lost such a wonderful person with so much heart, creativity, spunk, and such a fun-loving spirit.
I am quite thankful that your mom was a part of my life for---well, most of it actually. I started dance with her in FE in '82, then followed until she left HF, and eventually reunited with her in Warrensburg, ending with our Charleston # in her final recital in 2006. I’m not sure if that makes me her “longest” student or not, but certainly not her “oldest” (I think my mom’s got that one?)
There are many, many things I cherish about Dar (besides dance): her enthusiastic love of Red Lobster’s cheddar biscuits…How I’m not sure I’ll ever quite get over the little baby octopi she loved to eat at the Chinese buffet after a trip to Eleanor’s…Her excitement to show us her “Lucy” car, with the custom pink stripe and wheels (and her account of what happened to it, and poor Eugene)…Helping her “find” the perfect BRIGHT paint colors in the clearance section when I worked at Sears…and the studio when she was done… And for some reason, I remember (vividly) the gold pants she did the limbo in at my 13th birthday (a sock hop at the HF studio)…Oh, and the giant goldfish she “boarded” indefinitely in my mom’s pond one winter, which led to the Kaylee & Paige rendition of “Stacie’s Pond (has got it goin’on)”…. How she loved Paige’s dances, and how proud she was of Kaylee singing…It’s still hard to believe she’s gone…and now they’re without their “mim”…
I could never forget Dar, or what she taught so many of us: If you stumble, make it part of the dance (and don’t forget to smile!) I wish you both the strength to get through this difficult time, and hope you find peace to carry on.
You are all in my thoughts...

Darlene, was a sweetheart. Knowing her in Fort Edwatd all of those years, and meeting her again In Warrensburg when she taught my daughter gymnastics and dancing. She became an avid fan of my radio show and would call often to hear a song. I am devastated and my sympathies go out to her entire family. Thank you Darlene for being a friend.

Dear Norma,
I just wanted to share a few memories with you, and hope through this sad time, it may bring a smile to your face, and the family.
I was 10 when I was a scared little girl walking into the legion to meet my dance teacher. There stood a tiny little thing, pretty as a picture, and she showed me some tap steps. Boy, I want to do that. She laughed, and over all of our years of dance together, she did teach me everything she knew. I thought she could dance on water, and she thought the same of me. Now I know, not only can she dance on water, but she will dance where ever she wants. Every time I dance, I remember the dance teacher that gave me so much into my life.
Just before every dance recital, Darlene would be so bossy and so nervous, thinking that the kids weren't going to get the damn thing together.
Then, the night of the show, it went all away. all the yelling, all the fears and the show would begin. After the recital, we would laugh it off at the way she acted. And the next year, it would all happen again. haha. Every time I dance or meet a new dance student, I think of "my dance teacher" and I will continue that for the rest of my life. She was an insperation to me.
Thanks for letting me share that with you. God Bless, Lynn Pliscofsky Flaven

to all the brunell family,
everybody has loved and lost in their lifetime. everyone loved dar but, the time came for dar to go and be hand and hand with god.
dar was a loving, warm spirited dancer, her family was everything to her. for christmas although she was ill she croceshed everybody a gift. she was a person with many talents such as art, crochetting, and her passion dancing. all of her dance students adored dar because she was the best around. dar may not be with us physically but she will always be here. whether it be when were in school or whether we are at work. she will help us make the decisions in our lives that will make in impact. pictures and videos of dar will be treasured. But at the same time she would want us to move on and have a life of our own, and not to forget many of the wonderous things she has gaven to the brunell family and many others.
We love you Darlene Bowe, on behalf of the brunell family, thank you for all the many things that you taught us. God Bless

Who would have thought that when I took my first child to take dance lessons from Dar some 25 or so years ago that I would find a best friend. I'll always remember her limitless energy and her warm smile. I'll remember the crazy ideas she would get and I'd be thinking she's gone over the top now, only somehow it always seemed to work out. She so reminded me of her idol Lucy Ricardo and I often felt like the Ethel to her Lucy. So many fond memories it's hard to think of her and not have a smile on my face.
Friend, mentor, teacher, Dar was so many things to so many people. She truly touched the lives of anyone fortunate enough to spend time in her company. Her love for her friends and especially her family was boundless. She would do anything for anyone, expecting nothing in return. We are all richer for having had Darlene in our lives.
Janelle,PJ,Jeff,Bri,Kaylee & Paige - Your mom/grandmother was so proud of all of you. Her "kids" were her strength and her inspiration. Be strong, cherish her memory, and take comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering or in pain.
I know she is up there, looking out for you, dancing among the stars, with paint brush in hand, painting the sky and putting a faux finish on the clouds too!

Janelle and family,
It will be the little things that you will remember, the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem hard right now,it will be the memories
of these little things that help to push away the pain and bring the smiles back again.
Our family has yours in our thoughts and prayers.
