Joseph Nolan Obituary

SOUTH GLENS FALLS Joseph D. Nolan, 55, of Feeder Dam, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital, with his wife JoAnn and his daughter Ashley at his side. Joseph was born on March 6, 1953, at Glens Falls Hospital. He was the son of Jeannette Ann (Rabine) Nolan, formerly of South Glens Falls and presently living in Palm Bay, Fla., and the late John C. Nolan. He was raised in South Glens Falls and attended South Glens Falls schools until he joined the Army, serving in Vietnam. He returned from his service highly decorated, having received many medals and awards; among them the Bronze Star. On March 24, 1979, he married JoAnn (Mary Frances) Fitzgerald at St. Mary's Church, Glens Falls, with the Rev. John Falcone officiating. They just celebrated their 29th anniversary. He started his career on May 5, 1975, in Ballston Spa, working for Saratoga County as a real property tax representative for 35 years. Joe's greatest loves of his life were his wife and daughter, but following as a close second was his 2001 Special Anniversary Limited Edition Black Firehawk, which he faithfully polished every Saturday. He enjoyed times with family and friends and will be fondly remembered by all as "a big kid at heart." He was a member of the Idle Hour Club in Fort Edward, The American Legion Post 553 in South Glens Falls and The Eagles Club AERIE 2486 in South Glens Falls. Besides his father, Joseph was predeceased by Richard N. Barody. Survivors besides his mother, Jeannette, his wife, JoAnn, and his daughter, Ashley Nicole Nolan, both of South Glens Falls, include a brother, John M. "Jack" Nolan and his wife, Kate, of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; his two sisters, Susan Ogden and her husband, Melvin, of South Glens Falls and Deborah Davis and her husband, Rae, of Queensbury; his five nephews: Sean Nolan, Dennis Nolan, Kenny Duncan, Shane Duncan and Christopher McKinney; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Fitzgerald of Glens Falls; his sister-in-law, Sheila Red of Antelope, Calif., and her daughter, Magdelana "Maggie" Red and her husband, Grant Swanson, of Denver, Colo.; and his extended family, Patricia A. Barody of South Glens Falls, Bonnie Harris and her husband, Tracy of South Glens Falls, Tammy Been and her husband, Ralph, of Glens Falls, Pamela Barody of South Glens Falls; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends and family may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008, at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 62 Warren St., Glens Falls. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Main Street, South Glens Falls. Pallbearers will be Jack Nolan, Mel Ogden, Bobby Kory, Rae Davis, Chris McKinney and Kenny Duncan. Donations may be made in Joe's memory to St. Joseph's House of Grace, 33 Henry St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.

For my Sissy and my darling Ashley,
I loved Wil like my own brother as you know. I am thankful to have had him in my life for as long as I did.
I know that his #1 priorities were you two. He honored his country and his family and friends always. He was a caring, giving man. And certainly the bravest man I have ever met. You can be very proud knowing that you as his wife and his daughter had the best husband and father and I had the best "Wil".
And God had him always in His most perfect caring hands. His spirit will remain with us forever.
I love you both so very much.

JoAnn, Ashley and Jeanette,
There is deep sadness in the Saratoga County Real Property Tax office. We all miss Joe very much. The amount of knowlege he carried with him can never be replaced and the love we have for him will never fade. His presence will always be with us. We have his smiling picture on his office door to help us in our grief. We mourn with you.
JoAnn, you know I will personally do anything for you.
Joe....rest in peace.

Joe I have never seen eyes that sparkle so, to remind one of stars. A smile so sweet as to make honey bow in shame. May you find comfort in HIS arms and await the arrival of those who have loved you. Then you can meet them and show them the love and glory of GOD. We will miss you and the tears that flow are selfish. We celebrate your life and the joy you have brought to everyone who has crossed your path. We love you and we will miss you. Til' we meet again. Come back when summer 's in the meadow.
Love and honor in knowing you.

Love,
Kate

I am saddened to read about Joe's passing. I know he is in a better place without pain and suffering. He was a special guy who gained the respect of all who worked with him. I had the good fortune to share time with him when I worked at the Town of Moreau as Assessor Clerk and Assessor. Joanne & Ashley,

I know that that the last few days have been difficult, but be comforted to know that your husband and Dad's life touched many people in good and positive ways, not the least being the friendship and thoughtful regard that Joe always extended to my parents across the street every day.

My family's prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time, and I'm confident that the physical burdens that Joe worked through over the past year have been replaced by a never ending string of sunny Saturday mornings, a ready hose and bucket, and his Limited Edition Firebird that needs the attention to detail that only Joe can deliver.

Chamois on, Joe.....

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
