Martha Jane (Keenan) McCarthy
June 6, 1928 – June 13, 2024
QUEENSBURY - Martha (Keenan) McCarthy passed away on June 13, 2024, surrounded by her children and many friends and wonderful staff at the Terrace at the Glen in Queensbury.
She was born on June 6, 1928, the daughter of Frank and Irene (Reardon) Keenan.
She is survived by children: Ellen McCarthy Cleary of Alexandria, VA and Thomas McCarthy, (Jessica) of Clifton Park, NY; grandchildren: Thomas J. Cleary, Robert D. McCarthy II and Molly McCarthy; step-grandchildren: Beth Cleary Ball (Thompson) and Mathew Cleary; nephews: Frank McCoy and Peter McCoy; and her nieces: Christine McCoy, Helen Wild, and Caroline McCarthy O'Connor. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, the love of her life, Robert D. McCarthy; her sister, Anne Keenan McCoy, and son-in-law, Douglas Cleary.
Martha was a lifelong resident of Glens Falls and Queensbury, and a member of St. Mary's Church until she could no longer travel. She grew up near the corner of Ridge and Hunter Streets, while Bob grew up on Sagamore Street. Google Maps now says that is about a seven minute walk between those addresses, but nobody thinks it ever took Bob seven minutes to round that corner.
She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1946, and from The College of St. Rose in 1950. Following Graduation, she was a Caseworker for Catholic Charities in Glens Falls. She married Bob at St. Mary's Church on June 28, 1952, and they embarked on a 41 year adventure of love, laughs and joy, raising her family, traveling, and sharing the company of many friends whom she stayed close with over decades.
Together they were longtime members of the Glens Falls Country Club, and Martha had too many favorite restaurants to mention. She enjoyed playing golf, water skiing on Lake Nebo, tried her hand at tennis, and loved their annual trips to Vero Beach FL where they were season ticket holders at Dodgertown throughout the 70's, 80's and into the 1990's.
She also loved their weekend trips to Vermont and New Hampshire, as well as their travel to Los Angeles (including Chavez Ravine), Long Island, and Alexandria, VA, or wherever her children and grandchildren happened to be.
She was a marathon Gin Rummy player and could outlast Bobby and Molly, even if she couldn't always beat them, and she was sharp on the piano into her ninth decade.
After raising her family, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Regan and Denny Funeral Home, from 1987 to 1998, where she helped many families through difficult times.
She was separated from Bob by his death, too early, on November 24, 1993.
With Ellen's help and encouragement, Martha downsized to Olde Coach Road, Queensbury, and eventually to The Glen at Hiland Meadows in 2010, where she reconnected with many friends, and made many more. She had a great many friends who were all very important to her at every stage of her long and happy life. She will be missed by many.
Her family would like to thank the superstar staff at the Terrace at The Glen in Queensbury for their care and kindness over the past several years.
Arrangements are being handled by her friends at the Regan and Denny Funeral Home. Services will be private at the request of the family.

Ellen & Tommy,
My condolences. I got to see "aunt" Martha around 2012 when I took Kay up to GF to visit. We went to Tge Glen and visited with your mom and Aunt Betty. I have fond memories dating back to Donahues Market and of course, Nebo. Best wishes to you both and your families.
