Maynard D. "Trout" Ryther

QUEENSBURY * Maynard D. "Trout" Ryther, 93, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Oct. 10, 1913, in Medina, N.Y., he was the son of Oakley and Addy (Denton) Ryther.

Maynard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II with the 813th Tanker Battalion throughout Europe. During his time with the Army he was awarded six Bronze Stars, a Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart.

He graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1933 and played for the Glens Falls Independent Hockey team.

Maynard earned his Eagle Scout, was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and horse racing. He was known around the area for his "fly tying." Maynard was a person with a great personality, a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He retired in 1975 from New York State Department of Encon, where he served as an Encon officer for more than 30 years.

Maynard married Helene Falvey on Jan. 16, 1951. They were married for 55 years.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Lynn Marie Buys ,and two brothers, Glenn Ryther and Ray Ryther.

Survivors include his wife, Helene Ryther of Queensbury; his children, Joann Carroll and her husband, Stephen, of Fort Wayne, Ind., Bill Ryther and his wife, Jackie, of Syracuse, John Ryther of Glens Falls, and Mary Ryther of California and his grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Keith, Kelly and Charlie.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 29, at Singleton-Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury.

Burial will follow at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

Family and friends are invited and may call from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home.
