Richard J. Mozal
Oct. 3, 1950 - Jan. 31, 2024
QUEENSBURY – Richard J. Mozal, 73, of Queensbury, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on October 3, 1950 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Joseph Adam and Helen Mary (Zakrzewski) Mozal.
Rich attended St. Mary's Academy from kindergarten thru his sophomore year before transferring to Mt. Assumption Institute in Plattsburg, where he graduated in 1968. After graduating, he went to Siena College, graduating in 1972.
Returning to Glens Falls area, he was proud to join his father and running Sandy's Clam Bar. He eventually became the Owner and continued to run it for over 40 years, becoming a staple in the downtown Glens Falls area. He also was part owner in his early years of both the Docksider Restaurant and Christine's on South Street.
Rich was instrumental in bringing the music culture to the Glens Falls area. He introduced many local bands, national bands and noted celebrities. He was very active in the community, helping raise funds for many organizations, sponsoring golf benefits, softball teams, Toys for Tots and Music in the Park for example. He did the best for every person, no matter the situation – he always found a way to help.
When he wasn't working, Rich enjoyed golfing, which he did since the age of 12. He was a kind and caring person who always had an antidote for everyone and a smile on his face.
In later years, he watched American War History and American Movie History.
The greatest gift in his life was when he had his daughters. They meant the world to him and he was engrossed entirely in making them happy. He loved spending time with them in the back yard with their dogs, especially, Massie and Princess. Rich enjoyed their time together playing volleyball, swimming, traveling, especially to Disney, NYC and the beach. His girls claim he was the perfect dad.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his life partner and mother of his children, Rachelle Grimes and several Zack and Mozal aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his beloved daughters: Brooke Marianna Mozal and Makayla Adrianna Mozal; his sister, Carol (Paul) Danner; and his extended family on the Zack and Grimes side along with numerous best friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, 448 Aviation Road, Queensbury.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass at the church on Saturday.
Burial will be held in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hudson Falls, NY.

I remember when Rich bailed out the City of Glens Falls when he picked up the tab for weekly band concerts in Crandall Park. Saved music again.

Richie´s support of live music in the area cannot be overstated- he was the consummate bar owner and always treated musicians that performed at Sandy´s with respect. I´m so lucky to have performed on his stage and been graced with his friendship during that time. My condolences to his family.

When I was 16 years old I was selling CDs to raise money for my Junior prom. I walked up the road to his house and asked if he wanted to buy a few CDs. Richard bought $500 worth of CDs and laughed when my face as stunned! He said "I have to update the music on my juke box!" I can still hear him laugh. Needless to say I ended up selling the most CDs and won free tickets to my prom thanks to Richard. I will miss you!!!! Xoxo -Jenny
