Rodney Allen Truax
Aug. 29, 1955 - April 18, 2024
SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Rodney Allen Truax, 68, of South Glens Falls, sadly passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at his home.
Born on August 29, 1955 in Massena, NY, he was the son of Robert Truax and Beatrice (Mossow) Jacobs.
Rod graduated from St. Lawrence Central High School in 1974. Rodney was an elite athlete. His athleticism on the field, court, and diamond was legendary, as he excelled as a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. Rod's dedication and talent were unmatched, earning him the prestigious honor of being the first athlete in his high school history to be named All Northern three years consecutively in all three sports he played.
His passion and athletic ability was passed down to his daughters as he consistently played, practiced, and coached Micah, and Bethany. His greatest joy was cheering them on locally, on road trips, and across the country.
He married Michele Stevens on June 30, 1984 in Brasher Falls, NY. They raised their beautiful family and lived 40 wonderful years of marriage in South Glens Falls, NY. Together they loved watching sports, spending time and laughing with friends, and traveling, usually with their daughters, grandchildren, and second family, Ethan, Judy, Tyler, and Jordan Greene. Rod's greatest joy was playing with Eli, Mac, Paxton, Sawyer, and Millie.
After high school, Rod started working for Pearl Vision in Massena, NY. He obtained his Optician license and continued his career as an Optician at the Queensbury location. Rod looked forward to going to work every day. Throughout his career, he developed special friendships with coworkers and clients. He went above and beyond building relationships with his clients. That was obvious through all of the cards and well wishes he received throughout his illness.
Rod's other passions were playing golf, relaxing while fishing, doing yard work, and cheering for his favorite sports teams from the local level to the pros. Rod's easy going nature and kindness brought joy to those around him.
Rod is survived by his loving wife, Michele; daughter Micah and Matthew Ryan; daughter Bethany and George Carpenter; six grandchildren: Eli, Mac, and Millie Ryan, Lilly, Paxton, and Sawyer Carpenter. Rod is also survived by his five siblings who he adored. Left to cherish his memories are his brother, Terry Truax; brother, Tony and Sherri Truax; brother, Jeff Truax and Kris Whitcomb; sister, Tammy and Jimmy Ryan; and brother, Danny Truax and Deedee Reynolds. Michele's family, which became his, include: David Stevens, Craig and Patty Stevens, Pat and Sara Lynch, Jeff and Monique Grazen; and all of his nieces and nephews. It was family that made the holidays and life so special for Rod. He is predeceased by his father, Robert Truax, his mother, Beatrice Mossow, and his mother-in-law, Suzanne Stevens.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Yun and the entire C.R. Wood Cancer Center, as well as Hospice for the tremendous care and compassion they have given to our family.
