K. Jean Ackerly Obituary

Born December 10, 1917 in Hector, Pa., she was a daughter of the late William H. and Katheryn E. (Acker) Karschner. On August 23, 1945, she married Elliott E. Ackerly who preceded her in death on July 3, 2004.

She lived at Practical Bible College (now Davis College) for 50 years, where she taught and traveled with the students' singing group, retiring in 1988. She loved playing the piano and listening to music. Jean greatly enjoyed reading and the challenge of completing word search and jigsaw puzzles. She received the most enjoyment from being with people, especially her family.

Jeanine Ackerly, Petaluma, Calif.; two brothers, W. Guy (Beverly) Karschner, Galeton and Richard L. (June) Karschner, Mechanicsburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by a brother, Rodney Karschner and a sister, V. June Green.

Mrs. Ackerly was "mom" to me for my 3 years at Practical Bible Training School (Davis College) during tne years 1972-1975. I cleaned her house twice a week which helped me pay my way through college. She made my formal dress for a special event during my senior year. Paid for all the material. I kept in contact with her for over 30 years. I loved her dearly. Was thinking about her today and found this opportunity for writing a memory. Her life and my memory is still making a great impact on my life. Can't wait to see her and Mr. Ackerly and spend eternity with them.

SHE WAS A PRECIOUS SOUL. SHE TOUCHED ALL OF OUR LIVES. I REMEMBER A DAY THAT I CAME TO MY PIANO LESSON WITH A BAD COLD. SHE BROUGHT WE A CUP OF HOT TEA WITH LEMON & HONEY. SHE WAS A LOVELY & COMPASSIONATE LADY.

My husband and I attended PBTS in the mid 70s. We were privileged to travel with the Choir. They provided the music for our wedding. We have many special memories with them. God bless your family at her home going.

Mr. and Mrs. Ackerly were two of the kindest people I have known. They would have me for lunch during my Practical Bible days, and were the musicians at Central while I was there. Heaven's gain our loss!

It saddens me that she has passed, but I rejoice that she is with her Lord and Savior and her beloved husband!! They were the sweetest couple. I enjoyed traveling with them on the choir! We would have to stop at all the covered bridges for Mr. Ackerly!

Prayers for your all!

Mrs. Ackerly was my piano teacher from first grade through eighth grade. She was a stickler...and as a child, I didnt appreciate that, but as an adult...playing in our church...I DO appreciate her constant reminders about sitting properly, holding my wrists correctly and practicing. Thanks to your mom for her love of music combined with ministry. She was a great and Godly woman.

Expressions of sympathy in the death of Mrs. Ackerly who with Rev. Ackerly was an inspiration to those of us who grew up in the church (Main Street Baptist) at that time. I remember her as a very kind and loving teacher as well.

I am definitely one of the many that your Mom (and Dad) encouraged along my music journey, starting way back in the Main Street Baptist days. Their influence helped mold my music experience and ministry. How blessed you were to have her all these years and love to all the family.
