John Simmons Obituary

John W. Simmons, 87, of Bechtelsville, husband of Thelma (Reitnauer) Simmons of 61 years, passed away Wednesday March 28, 2018 at the Pottstown Hospital. Born in Washington Twp., he was the son of the late John M. and Mary (Genszler) Simmons. John worked at Boyertown Casket Company, Firestone Tire & Rubber, National Bank of Boyertown, and was self-employed as a landscaper. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sassamansville where he served as a former council member and council president. John was an avid animal lover with many pets throughout the years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his snowmobile in his early years. John also enjoyed watching sports, Legion baseball, and playing cards. He especially enjoyed playing family games. Surviving along with his wife is one son Timothy Simmons husband of Bonnie of Douglassville; three grandchildren Adrienne Stumhofer wife of Matthew of Reading, Matthew Simmons husband of Tina of Woodbridge, VA, and Brett Simmons of Monroeville; two great grandchildren Lucas and Aubrey Stumhofer; two sisters Anna Stoudt wife of Leroy, and Dorothy Gehman widow of N. James; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers Richard and George Simmons. Funeral services are private. Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 1020 E. Philadelphia Ave., Gilbertsville is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1809 Hoffmansville Rd., Sassamansville, PA 19472. Dear Thelma, so sorry to read of your loss of John. I share your pain. The loss if your best friend seems unbearable. My husband has been gone 8 years now. The emptiness never goes away but ithe pain does get better. I miss you and our times at NPB and my prayers go out to you and your family. Love you, Carol Rinewalt
