Catherine Mullen Obituary

Catherine M. "Kay" Mullen

Poughkeepsie - A lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, New York, entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

"Jesus heard your prayers and extended his hand to you. Placing your hand into his, he eased your pain and gave you your wings to guide you home to Heaven, where past family, friends and pets lovingly await you.

Born in Poughkeepsie on February 16, 1932 to the late Clarence and Mary (Dudek) Killmer, Catherine attended St. Joseph's School where she became a drum Majorette for the school band. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School. A devout parishioner and communicant of Saint Joseph's Church she married the love of her life, Richard C. Mullen, there on April 29, 1984. He survives at home.

Catherine retired from I.B.M. Poughkeepsie in 1987 after 35 years of service as a senior secretary. She also was a proud life member of the Polish American Citizen's Club #369. Giving to many charitable organizations through the years, she and her husband had donated generously, One in particular was truly dear to her heart; The Legionaries of Christ.

This organization, founded in 1941, helps to educate new seminarians who have dedicated their lives to Christ. Their unselfish charity helps provide desperately needed clothing, lodging, and books for these young men to accomplish their goal to become a great Catholic priest.

Throughout her life Kay was an avid cat lover, Kay had entered several of them in the Poughkeepsie Cat Show. Through the years a few of them had

won several trophies and ribbons and she displayed them with extreme pride.

Special moments such as boating on the Hudson River on their boat "Kasha" and spending many summer vacations relaxing, swimming and strolling on its boardwalk with her husband, son and other family members have been timelessly captured inside dozens of photo albums.

As world travelers, Kay and Richard vacationed to and journeyed

on many pilgrimages to places such as Hawaii, Spain, Portugal, Africa, Italy, Jerusalem and Germany, to name a few, The Holy Land (visiting Fatima, Medjugorje, and Our Lady of Guadeloupe) and twice to Vatican City in Italy . On the two trips to Vatican City (1993 and 1995) truly gave them their most thrilling

and fondest memories. Kay and Richard attended mass, met and were

blessed by His Holiness, the late Blessed Saint Pope John Paul II.

Kay is survived by her husband Richard at home; a loving son Thomas

Chumbres Jr. and partner Michael Corum of California; sister-in-law Charlotte (Joan) Killmer of Tennessee; sister-in-law Barbara (Judy) Vitek of Beacon; sister-in-law Agnes Tully of Florida and several loving nieces, nephews and cousins, along with her fur babies BB, Kelly and Mona.

Kay also leaves behind several beloved friends that she had met throughout her life either on vacations, in church, in rehabilitation facilities or doing recreational programs, that became true, loving and dear lifelong friends. She had felt truly Blessed knowing them all.

She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor and her husband William Phillips and brothers Vincent and Clarence (Babe) Killmer.
