Daniel P. Belmonte

POUGHKEEPSIE - Daniel P. Belmonte entered into eternal life on April 3, 2011.

Daniel was born on January 29, 1924 in Accetura, Provincia Matera, Italy, the son of Salvatore and Anna Cerabone Belmonte.

Daniel was raised and educated in Manhattan, New York City. Upon completion of his education, he served as a demolitions specialist in the United States Army, European Theater during World War II.

During his service he was decorated for combat bravery receiving two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star.

Daniel was a successful businessman in the restaurant and food service industries. He retired in June of 1984.

On April 13, 1947, he married Vera A. Piro in Poughkeepsie, New York where they presently resided.

He was a member of the Roman Catholic faith, and a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie. He was a life member of the Italian Center, a member of the Millerton Rod and Hunt Club, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his beloved four daughters, Sr. Ann Daniel Belmonte, OP of Richmond, Virginia, Ann Petkovich and her husband Jerry of Suffield, CT, Donna Gruberg of Poughkeepsie, and Mary Belmonte-Smith and her husband William of New Hyde Park, Long Island, NY.

He was the cherished grandfather of Kimberly Dunham, Jay Petkovich, Christopher Petkovich, Stephen P. Gruberg, David Gruberg, Jeffrey Smith and Pamela Smith. He was the proud great grandfather of eight.

Also surviving are his two sisters, Anna Rannazzo of Brooklyn, Margaret Arcamone of Staten Island and a brother Peter Belmonte of North Carolina, many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and dear friends.

Daniel was predeceased by his parents, his sister Josephine Hines, and his brother Joseph Belmonte.

Calling hours are Thursday, April 7 from 4-8 pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 218 Mill Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Wheelchair entrance is located in the rear of the funeral home on Vassar Street.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 8 at 10am at Church of the Holy Trinity, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery with full Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dominican Sisters of Hope Ministry Fund, Ossining Center of Hope, 299 North Highland Avenue, Ossining, NY 10562.

Our dearest Aunt Vera and dearest much loved cousins,
We have lost another wonderful, unique, loving member of our family. Words cannot express how much Uncle Dan meant to us, yet still remains in our hearts, prayers and thoughts. We have all wonderful memories of Uncle Dan. He served his family, he served his country, he served our Lord. He continues to do so in his most blessed spirit. He and dad can play cards together again and have front row seats at every Yankee game.
