Gregory Feeney Obituary
Wappingers Falls - Greg Feeney, 55, died suddenly of a heart attack at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on February 10, 2017. Greg was born on November 15, 1961 in Poughkeepsie, NY, to Don and Joanne Feeney. He lived most of his life in Wappingers Falls, NY. He was a graduate of John Jay High School, East Fishkill, NY, class of 1979. He continued to graduate with honors from Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY, class of 1983. He worked as a Manager of Infrastructure and Operations at IBM for 34 years. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor. He touched the lives of all who knew him.
One of his proudest moments was receiving a patent through his work with IBM. Outside of working for IBM, he was involved for several years with the local volleyball club, APEX. The sport meant a lot to him and was something he shared with his daughters, brother-in-law, and nieces.
In addition to his three children, he was a father figure to many. He was willing to lend a hand to anyone and everyone who needed it, even from states away. He will be missed in more ways than one.
He is survived by his wife, Heidi K. Feeney; his daughters, Ellen M. Feeney, Leanne N. Shoemaker and husband, Joe, and Gina C. Feeney; his father, Don Feeney; his siblings, John Feeney and wife, Rosemarie, Susan Hughes and husband, Garry, David Feeney and wife, Tracy; his many nieces and nephews; and one great-niece.
He was predeceased by his mother, Joanne Feeney.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 17 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls.
Contributions in memory of Greg can be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society and to the American Heart Association.

To Greg's family, words can never offer enough comfort. I was fortunate to work with Greg at IBM. I can remember our conversation the day I told him I was moving on. He he was kind and with true candor was appreciative of our partnership working together, as he laughed and said we did not always see eye to eye but we always respected each other. True! He spoke often of his family and daughters and his involvement with volleyball. I was shocked and saddened to hear of Greg's passing. Cherish always, as memories are forever.

I can honestly say that I would not be the person I am today without Greg. He helped to guide me in my career when I was very young and I was a much better person for it. He was a great manager and a good person. I recently became a manager myself and even though he had lost touch I think he would have been proud of me. Had it not been for him I never would have taken this path in my life. My heart goes out to his family during this difficult time. He will definitely be missed.

We are close friends of Sue and Garry. On Thursday, when we visited at Greg's wake, Don said something that stuck with us. He told Jerry in no uncertain terms to get his heart checked. So he is. Don, thank you for the push forward in honor of Greg.

I've had the opportunity to work in Greg's organization or close peer organizations for the last 10+ years. Although he could be a tough business man, he looked out for the people in his organization.
I remember the day I accepted a position in his organization, he called me a short time later to welcome me into his team.
When my own brother passed away in 2016, Greg shared these kind words with me, that I'll now share with you: "I am deeply saddened by your news... There are never good words to say during these times that will provide your heart relief. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself and them. He is in a better place."
Greg's passing has left a great hole at IBM, and we will be feeling his loss for a very long time. Know that we share in your grief.

I had the pleasure of knowing Greg while working with him at IBM in Endicott, NY. He was an incredibly intelligent and creative man with drive like no one I had ever met before or after. I can't help but feel that Greg is already working on an optimization plan to improve the infrastructure of all those entering the pearly gates. We all know he could get it done!

I knew Greg back when we sat next to each other in East Fishkill years ago, and saw him again most recently in Poughkeepsie. He was a Hall of Fame IBMer, and there aren't many like him anymore. He was tough on an IBMer parking in customer parking, and bought refreshments to some working hard doing a good job. God knows why he was taken in his prime, a tremendous loss to many. I've known Greg since 1st grade at St. Mary's School and then John Jay. I spent years sitting a couple offices from him at IBM and knew you all through his stories/pictures. He was so proud of his girls!

Condolences to Heidi, Ellen, LeAnne, Gina and the entire Feeney family. I've worked with or for Greg for the better part of 20 years. He was a mentor, father figure, brother, and best friend all wrapped up in one man.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Feeney Family.. Greg was so thoughtful when my daughter started playing volleyball with apex. The first question he asked the 14U team was "Did you have fun?" He always put there feelings first... What a genuine caring man. Greg will never be forgotten and he will always be missed...

Shannon, my daughter, is a volleyball player who played with Apex and we know what an asset he was to that organization. He always treated us like Family and we have had only wonderful things to say about Apex due to our experiences with Greg within this organization. Wendy and I are extremely saddened by Greg's passing. In the two years of travelling with our daughter, Aly in Apex, the brightest part was Greg's enthusiasm and his encouragement that he always gave the girls on his team. In a world of extreme competitiveness, Greg balanced out winning and having fun just the right way.

I was so very shocked and saddened to hear of Greg's passing. I have known Greg for at least 20 years in IBM, and worked quite closely with him in the "OLD DAYS". I was happy to find out that our offices were near eachother when we moved to the POK offices. It was nice to stop by and chat on the way to coffee. He was a great guy and will be missed!

Feeney Family-
I am so deeply sorrowed to hear of the loss of Greg. He is one of the greatest people I have ever met. I met him when I was just starting volleyball at Apex and he took my under his wing the way no other coach had before. He was passionate, kind, loving, and a wonderful person, I looked up to him for my entire volleyball career until my very last Apex tournament. He will be missed by the many lives he touched. Heidi, Ellen. Leanne and Gina. My heart goes out to you. Greg was an amazing person. We worked together and attended MANY of the same meetings. He was always ready to pinch in and help me out (with documentation, charts or just explaining a process to me). He will be missed by many! Heidi, he always talked about you and the girls (you all were his world). I want to thank you for keeping me in touch every Christmas through your yearly pictures, I got to see your girls grow up even when Greg and I didn't work together anymore. Greg coached my daughter Ally at Apex and taught her so much about the sport - most of all, he taught her how to have passion for the sport.
