Harrison R. Ward

Poughkeepsie, NY - Harrison R. Ward, 82, passed away quietly on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

Born on July 1, 1928, he was a native of Brooklyn.

Harrison proudly served in both the United States Navy and Marine Corps for over twenty years, and later settled into civilian life as a Mortgage Processor for Morgan Guarantee Bank in New York City.

A lover of water and sports, he could be found indulging his passions for boats, swimming, and bike riding. Harrison also liked to keep current on politics and world events. In addition, he contributed generously to the charities that he believed in, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Harrison is survived by his daughter, Christine Ward, of Poughkeepsie.

He was predeceased by his mother, Alice Ward; aunt, Bridgette Snell; and cousin, George Snell.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place and his ashes will be placed in the columbarium wall in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Harrison's family respectfully requests memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 (www.stjude.org), or, The Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538 (www.DCSPA.org), or, the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, 195 Hudson St., Cornwall on Hudson, NY 12520(www.foodbankofthehudsonvalley.org).
