Joseph Ciero Obituary
New Paltz - Joseph Ciero, 86, of New Paltz, NY, and 20+ year resident of the Hudson Valley, passed away on Sunday January 29th, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Joe was born September 23rd 1925 in Norwich, Ct, the youngest of 3 Children born to the late Gaetano Ciero & Mary Grace DiSavino.
On April 19th 1953 he married his sweetheart, Christina Tocco at Mt. Carmel Church in Yonkers NY. Mrs. Ciero passed away in September, 2010. Joe is survived by his two sons, Thomas of Poughkeepsie, NY and Richard and his wife Eileen of Oradel, NJ and one Daughter Joanne Ponte of Highland, NY. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren: Kevin and his wife Jamie, Megan, Chelsey, Johnathon and Gavin.
Joe also leaves behind his faithful 4 legged friend "Buddy". Other survivors include his sister Josie Metlicke of Murrels Inlet, South Carolina, his nephews, James DiCaprio, Joseph & Raymond Metlicke and Angelo Giordano as well as nieces Rosemary Robertson & Margeret Steinmeyer, their spouses plus many great-nephews and nieces. Joe was predeceased by his sister Mary DiCaprio of Yonkers, NY. Joe was a retired truck driver with Red Star Express Lines and a loyal member of locals 560 and 445 of the Teamsters Union. Joe proudly served his country in the US Navy in both the European and Pacific Theatres of Operations during WW II. He was a gunner aboard a fuel tanker and he sailed through the equator and around the world.
Calling Hours will be held Thursday, February 2nd from 4-8pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 38 Main St. Highland, NY, 12528.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am Friday, February 3rd at Mt.Carmel Church, 70 Park Hill Ave, Yonkers, NY, 12701. Burial will Follow at St. Josephs Cemetery, Yonkers, NY.
