Kevin Murtagh Obituary

Kevin M. Murtagh

New Paltz - Kevin M. Murtagh, 64, passed away in his home in New Paltz, NY on Thursday, December 7, 2017 after an extended illness. Born on September 27, 1953 in Roslyn Heights, NY, he was the second son of Bernard Murtagh and Evelyn McMahon.

Kevin graduated from Rosyln High School, and eventually began working at Schein Pharmaceuticals, where he would go on to meet his loving wife of 33 years, Jill (nee Griffiths). The couple relocated to the Hudson Valley in the early 90s, living in Hopewell Junction, Poughkeepsie, and eventually settling in New Paltz. Kevin enjoyed a rousing game of horseshoes, learning about history, especially the Vikings, Irish music, the friends he made working at Abilities First, all things green, and especially playing with his grandson Stevie.

Surviving in addition to his wife Jill, are his son Patrick Murtagh and his partner Daniel A. Miles; his daughter Kaitlin C. Lillo and her husband Steven; his brother Barney Murtagh; his brother Terry Murtagh and his wife Patti; his brother Michael Murtagh and his wife Geri; his sister-in-law Gale Griffiths and her wife Laurie Sauter; nephew John Murtagh and his wife Tameka; nephew Sean Murtagh and his wife Justine; nephew Michael Murtagh Jr; niece Keri Murtagh; nephews Connor and Aidan Murtagh; nephews Michael and Marcus Nieves; Aunt Mary Jo Hartnett; cousins Sharon Hartnett and her husband Bob Majcher, Willy Hartnett, Matt Hartnett, Megan Hartnett and her boyfriend Scott Strickland, Maeve Majcher-Hartnett; grandson Steven Lillo Jr. and his soon-to-be twin granddaughters (that he loved to feel kicking!). In addition to his parents, Kevin is predeceased by his sister-in-law, Carol Murtagh, and his four amigos Bill Caprise, Bill Bauman, Bill Vinoski and Rich D'Agostino.

The family will host a burn in Kevin's honor sometime in the warmer months- details forthcoming. Memorial donations in honor of Kevin can be made to Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601, or at hvhospice.org, or the charity of your choice.
