Marcia Todd Obituary

Marcia A. Todd

Poughkeepsie - The daughter of Anne Matthews Todd and Orville Andrew Todd, Marcia was born on the Matthews farm in Clinton Hallow on January 8, 1950 and passed away on April 19th, 2018. She is survived by her brother Bill Todd of Poughkeepsie, her niece Melissa Todd Floyd and grandniece Madison Leigh Anne Floyd of Houston and her nephew Matthew William Todd of Alexandria, VA.

Marcia grew up in East Park, where the family made lifetime bonds and she was unofficially the boss of the big kids. Marcia moved to Spackenkill in 1961. She attended the Croft Road Jr. High school and graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1968. She received her associates degree from Sullins College in Bristol Virginia in 1970.

Marcia spent a good portion of her career in the publishing industry. She managed the Book and Record stores in Poughkeepsie and Hyde Park and transitioned to a representative role for different publishing houses. Later she spent a number of years as the Yellow Page advertising representative in Orange, Ulster and Dutchess counties. Her final position was as the manager at the Ace Self-Storage facility in Hyde Park retiring in 2016.

An avid Formula One racing enthusiast, she attended the US Grand Prix in Watkins Glen and the Canadian Gran Prix in Montreal whenever possible. She and the crew also saw the races at Monza in Italy and the Grand Prix of Monaco. Let's not forget her driving her own Datsun 510 at Lime Rock and she still has her 1986 Fiat 124 Spider convertible. It wasn't unusual for her to be up at 3 am watching a race from Europe.

Marcia was a boater. She loved boating on the Hudson and taking trips with her friends. She maintained slips at the old Brass Anchor and later at Norrie Point.

Limited in her later years by her battle with COPD, Marcia maintained her strong belief in Family, friendships and neighborhood. She took on the role as the family historian doing the research for the Todd and Matthews families, and keeping the family reunions together. She recently determined the location of Matthews family members using maps from the 1890s.

Marcia fought a cruel battle with a horrific disease, but there was always a great pumpkin pie for every holiday, there was always a home for a stray cat and there was always a friend to all. Somehow, she managed to outlive three dogs named Teddy, 21 cats and a Great Dane named, of course, Cuda.

The Todd family wishes to thank all her friends and special neighbors who helped her and especially to Michelle, her lifetime buddy.

Please come and celebrate a good life lived, the 4th of July parties were the best.
