Randolph Henry Obituary

Randolph Austin Henry

Poughkeepsie - Randolph Austin Henry, 62, a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, died on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck.

He was born on August 1, 1955 in Brooklyn and was the son of Charles Sills and Mamie Henry.

Randy was a wonderful, kind, loving and caring man. Throughout all of his struggles, he always had a zest for life, a positive attitude and a wonderful sense of humor. He touched the lives of all those he met.

Randy worked on Wall Street in the 1980s and then made his way to Dutchess County. His favorite job was working at the Dutchess County Department of Health in Poughkeepsie. Randy was an AIDS activist who helped open the first HIV/AIDS drop-in center in Dutchess County and he was very proud to be on the planning council of the Dutchess County HIV Health Services.

Randy is survived by his mother, Mamie (Henry) Scott; two beloved daughters, Jasmine and Crystal Henry; son, Buster Henry; two grandchildren, Nallah and Zachary; siblings: Deborah Sills, Matthew and Nathaniel Scott, Andrew Shaw, Edward and Nicole Sills, Cynthia Alexis-Brown, and James and Cecelia Sills; many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews that he cherished, especially Selena, Octavia and Jessica; his best friend, Janet Braatz; and new friend, Howard.

He was predeceased by his father, Charles Sills, and two brothers, Charles Sills, Jr. and Sterling Henry.

Randy was very grateful to all the CNA's, nurses, and Hospice workers at Ferncliff who befriended him, comforted him and took good care of him, especially during his last days. They have a special place in his heart.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, One Church St., Hyde Park, NY.
