Robert Cady Obituary
Poughkeepsie - Robert Hugh Cady Sr., 95, life-long resident of Poughkeepsie NY, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Sunday March 7, 2021. He was born October 16, 1925. He was the son of Robert Joseph Cady and Ann Martin Cady. Bob was predeceased by his wife Sally Cunningham Cady on April 8, 2011. They were married at Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie, NY on April 20, 1947. Bob was also predeceased by his son Robert "Skip" Cady Jr. and brother in-law Charles Cunningham.
At the age of 17 Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served his country from September 9, 1943 through May 6, 1946. During this time, he served in the 5th Marine Division on Iwo Jima.
Bob was a city of Poughkeepsie firefighter with 36 years of service. His love of firefighting and serving the public started at the age of 17 with Arlington Fire Company as a volunteer, where he has been a life member for 78 years.
He was an avid sports enthusiast; Inducted into the Dutchess County Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1987. He was a Mets, Jets, and Notre Dame fan until the end.
Survivors include sister in-law Janet Cunningham of Tampa, FL., daughters and son in-laws Sandra and Viktor Labodin of Gardiner, NY, Marcia and John O'Brien of Millbrook, NY. He is also survived by grandchildren, Erin Bennett, Marc Labodin, Daniel Labodin, Christine Rosenthal, Robert H Cady III, Jessica Cady, and "grand pup" Buddy O'Brien. In addition, there are 12 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special thanks to Poppy's favorite nurses, his great granddaughters Bridget and Sydney Bennett. These two angels never left his side.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 14, 2021 2-4pm at William Miller Funeral Home 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 15, 2021 at 10am in Holy Trinity Church 775 Main St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery with military honors.

Mike and I are so sorry to hear about your dad, Sandy and Marsha. Mike has many fond memories of him, especially when he was growing up and the trouble he, Skip and Bill Tougas could get into. Mike has a combination of Alzheimer’s dementia and Lewy Body dementia. HehS had this for about 2 years. We both will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Condolences to the Cady Family. Your Dad & Grandad was such a nice man and wonderful neighbor to my Mom and brother Tom on Meyer Ave. I loved that he regularly sat on the "front stoop" and waved to all passerby's. I also loved that each time a fire engine passed by his home they would toot a salute to him. He truly was a man of the Greatest Generation. Serving his country to make it a better place, and service to his community made the neighborhood a better place. He will be missed but not forgotten.

I lived and grew up at 17 meyer across the street from the Cady family .Mr. Cady was so fun and kind ,always ready to help......he was a great friend to my parents and made me, as alittle kid feel happy and safe....
