Robert Haight Obituary

Robert Glenn "Chip" Haight

Newburgh - Robert Glenn Haight

"Chip"

The amazing Chip Haight entered into rest on October 14, 2017. His loving wife, Patricia B. Haight, and his sons, Ryan Robert Haight, and Aaron David Haight, who he loved with all his heart, surrounded him.

Chip originally won his battle with a gliobastoma terminal brain cancer. Chip took each challenge presented by his illness and defeated it with a smile on his face. After deciding to take his place with God, he prayed that all his hard work with his wonderful doctor, Jac Stone, would help others not to experience what he had to endure. This is a true testament to how Chip always put others first.

Chip was born in Beacon , New York on February 6, 1962 and given the name Robert Glenn by his loving parents Barbara Heady Haight, who currently resides in Beacon, and the late Robert Frederick Haight. Chip grew up in Beacon, always playing outside and running around town with his many friends. He enjoyed spending time with friends, playing basketball, little league, and pop warner football, which deemed him a Rams fan for life. He attended Beacon city schools, grades K-12, and while in high school became a junior custodian with his life-long friend, Michael Sylvester. After graduating, Chip became a New York State Corrections officer. He was proud of his job and often encouraged many friends to join him. He was dedicated and committed to treating everyone with respect. He retired after 35 years of service. Chip and his buddy Mike also started a roofing and siding company.

Chip worked hard to support his first wife, Gina Marie, who he married in 1994, and their two beautiful sons. He was a dedicated family man. He took lots of vacations, which always included fun and plenty of mini-golf. He coached Babe Ruth baseball, basketball, and football for both his children. In 2010, Chip and Gina divorced. He married his soul mate, Patricia B. Weir also in 2010. Together with his sons, they lived a life full of love and activity. There were many more vacations (and mini-golf) and just spending time together. He smiled every day. He continued to be the best father, husband, and friend, even through tough times. He made his wife and sons feel loved at all times, and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Chip was the master of one-liners that made everyone laugh in good times, and in bad.

Chip was a member of St. Rocco's and the Knights of Columbus in Beacon. He was the president of the Green Haven and Fishkill golf league. Golf was Chip's passion and he found time to golf for many charities. He and his family were members of Southern Dutchess Golf Club in Beacon. He was patient enough to teach Patty, Ryan, and Aaron to golf all at the same time. Chip also enjoyed playing poker and even managed to run to a casino every now and then. Chip was an avid weight-lifter and enjoyed driving his Camaro, and hitting Seaside Heights, NJ once in a while.

Chip was loved by so many friends. All who met him, loved him. Special thanks to G-man (you know who you are). If you needed something, you could call Chip and it was taken care of. If you were lucky enough to be Chip's friend, try to live like he would. Don't judge or hold grudges, and help everyone you possibly can. There is not a man who will be missed more than Chip will be.

Surviving Chip are: his brother, Glenn David Portman and his wife Nina Velez of Wappingers Falls, his sister Jeanine Vickie Haight of Beacon, the mother of his sons, Gina Marie Haight of Marlboro, his uncle Charles "Butch" Heady and his wife Lois Heady, his aunt Vicky Coughlin and her husband George Coughlin, his aunt Betty Ann Haight Coughlin, and his aunt Beverly Haight Turcy and uncle Joe Turcy, his sister-in-law Linda Squires and her husband Harry, many nieces and nephews, and many cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Robert Frederick Haight, brother Brian Dale Haight, aunt and Godmother Jean Heady McArthur, nephew Brian Dale Haight, cousin Shawn Antalek, mother-in-law Eileen Chippendale, and his brother-in-law Jay Fagan.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation in Asheville, North Carolina or the Good Will Church in New Paltz, NY. Libby Funeral Home in Beacon is handling funeral services. Pastor Josh Stewart of the Good Will Church will take care of all spiritual needs. Services will be held Tuesday, October 17th from 2-7 at Libby Funeral Home in Beacon. A funeral will be held at 11am on Wednesday October 18th at the Good Will Church in Montgomery.
