Sen Sahib: I´m ever grateful to have learned from you many years ago. You introduced me to India and it changed my life. I wish we could have a chat these days. I´d tell you again how much impact you had on me and many others. Rest easy, Professor. Thanks for the adventures.

Memory is sacred. Remembrance is the signature of life while merely moving on is the mechanical, lifeless and blind march of time. It signifies nothing.
I remember you, my beloved son. I feel your pulse beat in my blood every moment of the day. I lay you down to sleep every night. Forever with us and never left behind is my message to all who have died. Live in us and with us.

As 7th October draws near Bapi's memories come to mind. So affectionate and humorous. We have to accept his absence however painful.....and life has to go on. Such is the law of the universe.

Two years already! And what a year 2020 has turned out to be! I miss Satadru's mordant wit, his intellect, his erudition even more during this calamitous year than I had done earlier.

A year without a brilliant colleague, a great friend and, above all, one of the finest, most imaginative scholars in his field. Why do the best people go so early?

Time is not always the best healer but often a reminder, in spite of the absence, of a perpetual presence not only in the hearts of close friends and family but also in every nook and corner of the house, along the corridors he has walked, the books he has touched...wherever he has been, he is still....

You swam into my belly
A tadpole from a pool
By the river Satadru.
You nested inside me
Grew into a full-size male baby
Then slid into this lit-up world
Howling first, then hushed
Into contented quietude.
As you grew inside my heart
My heart expanded to fit you
Even as my belly shrank.
My body birthed you
Cord was cut.
My soul never pushed you out.
You remained.
The waters there never broke.
You forever splashed and played
In my waters.
If you have fallen asleep
Tired, hurt, saddened
If you are resting, gone silent,
Then sleep my child
Rest as long as you need
I will hold your head on my lap
Keep my watch over you
As did the snake king
Spread its hood over Buddha's head
To stand guard.
When the time is right
You will sit up again
Pick up where you left off.
Always a beggar for love.
You will find true love
A lotus with all its hundred petals
Opened in full glory.
A lotus with dew on it.
A lotus soft, firm, succulent
Steeped in intoxicating fragrance
A lotus happy to be
Held in your hands.

Sorry, shocked to hear that he had to leave so early! I will miss a fine scholar, supportive and reliable colleague and a great guy to hang out with, drink and talk nonsense! My thoughts are with his wife and daughters.

I am heartbroken by Satadru's sudden death. He was a wonderful scholar, a committed teacher and a great human being. He was also great fun to hang out with. He came to London only a few months ago and we had a fantastic evening - lots of intellectual and political conversation (of course!) but also gossip, banter and ice cream! And now, all gone...
I cannot even imagine what Amanda, Mira and Leila must be going through. I have never met them but thanks to Satadru's wonderful photos and posts on Facebook, they have been part of my life for a long time.

Still difficult for me to accept the sudden tragedy... I have innumerable memories of his childhood. I was his favorite aunt and he was very fond of me. He was a great scholar, and I have read some of hi articles. May his soul rest in peace. My condolences to all the family members.

Satadru Sen was a classmate 35 years back at St Xavier's School Durgapur, India. A cheerful, fun loving guy. Saddened by his sudden departure. Farewell friend. You'll be missed by all who knew you.

Satadru Sen was a marvelous professor. He took a subject that can often be viewed as boring and turned it into one of the most interesting tales you will ever hear. Almost like a father telling his children fairy tales they would never forget and always left them wanting more. Except, it wasn't a fairytale it was our history. I will forever be grateful I had the chance to learn from him before his tragic and far too soon death. He will be mourned by many. But the ones who should mourn are those who will never get the chance to learn from him. May the creator bless his soul and care for his family. Because if his students feel such loss, I despair in imagining how the people he loved the most, his family, must feel. May the creator take care of you all forever. Sincerely, and most regretfully, SEN'S HISTORY NERDS.

So sorry to hear this news. Sending my condolences to his family. Satadru and I were colleagues at Queens College - we both taught Asian history. He will be missed.
