Satadru Sen

Wappingers Falls - Satadru Sen, of Wappingers Falls, NY, passed away suddenly on October 7, 2018.

Satadru was born in Kolkata, India on January 24, 1969. He moved to California with his family as a teenager and attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a B.A. and M.A. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Washington. Satadru has been a professor at the City University of New York (CUNY) for twelve years and is the author of several books on South Asian history. Prior to teaching at CUNY, Satadru taught at Washington University in St. Louis and Purdue University. Satadru was the loving father of two daughters. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling. He will be greatly missed.

Satadru is survived by his mother, Karabi; his wife, Amanda; his daughters, Mirabai and Leila; and his siblings, Santanu, Indumati, Aparajito, and Priyodarshi.

Visitation and remembrance will be at Delehanty Funeral Home in Wappingers Falls, NY at 4:00pm Friday, October 12, 2018. Reception at Sen home to follow. To send a condolence or for directions, visit www.delehantyfuneral.com

I am heartbroken by Satadru's sudden death. He was a wonderful scholar, a committed teacher and a great human being. He was also great fun to hang out with. He came to London only a few months ago and we had a fantastic evening - lots of intellectual and political conversation (of course!) but also gossip, banter and ice cream! And now, all gone...

I cannot even imagine what Amanda, Mira and Leila must be going through. I have never met them but thanks to Satadru's wonderful photos and posts on Facebook, they have been part of my life for a long time.

Still difficult for me to accept the sudden tragedy... I have innumerable memories of his childhood. I was his favorite aunt and he was very fond of me. He was a great scholar, and I have read some of hi articles. May his soul rest in peace. My condolences to all the family members.

Satadru Sen was a marvelous professor. He took a subject that can often be viewed as boring and turned it into one of the most interesting tales you will ever hear. Almost like a father telling his children fairy tales they would never forget and always left them wanting more. Except, it wasn't a fairytale it was our history. I will forever be grateful I had the chance to learn from him before his tragic and far too soon death. He will be mourned by many. But the ones who should mourn are those who will never get the chance to learn from him. May the creator bless his soul and care for his family. Because if his students feel such loss, I despair in imagining how the people he loved the most, his family, must feel. May the creator take care of you all forever.
