Steven Pfluger Obituary

Steven Pfluger

POUGHKEEPSIE - Steven Pfluger, 68, an area resident since 1956 and formerly of the Bronx, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 16, 2014.

Born in the Bronx on October 28, 1945, he was the son of the late Alfred and Theresa (Westendorf) Pfluger. Steven was a 1963 graduate of Arlington High School and proudly served our country in the US Navy. He had been employed as an Engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie, Cim-Tech and Jabil until his retirement.

Steven was a dedicated member of the Hopewell Reformed Church where he was very active in their mission work. He and his wife Cynthia traveled across the United States in their RV helping others. His faith brought him to Tres Dias and to also work in the prison ministry where he was very involved with Kairos. He enjoyed politics, sports, traveling, gardening, snorkeling and hiking, but more than anything, he loved his children and grandchildren.

On November 18, 2006 at the Mohonk Mountain House, Steven married Cynthia Rozelle who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Nicole Chiulli and her husband Craig of Lopatcong, NJ, Chris Pfluger and his wife Janeen of Mount Kisco, Jennifer Pfluger of Poughkeepise; his stepchildren, Scott Thomson and his husband Joao Assumpcao of Union City, NJ, and Robert Thomson and his wife Lea of Fishkill; his grandchildren, Claudia, Hannah, Christian and Nolan Chiulli, Ava and Allison Pfluger, Christoper and Reece Thomson; his brother, Alfred Pfluger and his wife Linda of Poughkeepsie; his nieces and nephew, Courtney and Elizabeth Pfluger, Jan, Jeri and John Pantalone; his mother-in-law, Carolyn Rozelle of Hopewell Junction; his sister-in-law, Joyce Heagney and her husband Dave of Hopewell Junction; his brothers-in-law, John Pantalone of Poughkeepsie, Al Rozelle and his wife Marie of White Plains, Gordon Rozelle of Staatsburg; and many other loving family members and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Beverly Bruzgul on October 26, 2003; his sister, Nancy Pantalone; and his father-in-law, Al Rozelle.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held at the Church on Friday at 11am followed by military honors.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533 to continue the mission work that Steven was so involved with.

To the Pfluger family, My husband and I went to school in Millbrook with Steven. We had not seen him in years! We organized our 50th Class Reunion in August and I had the great pleasure to connect with him by phone. He was so very nice and really wanted to join us, but he had a family obligation (his mother-in-law's 90th birthday party) and could not attend, although he was going to try. I am sad that we never all got to see him again, but I am so happy that I was able to talk to him after so many years. He was so easy to talk to and he helped connect me with another old friend, also, by phone. How very sad. May you rest in peace, Steven. You helped many people through your good works, and you are surely in God's arms. Gloria and Chick Molella

As a teenager back in the sixties, I lived next door and babysat for a lovely lady named Nancy, and through this friendship I met a great guy, her brother Steve. We stayed friends for a few years and I will always have fond memories of Steve. My thoughts and prayers to the Pfluger family during this very sad time.

I was Steven's nurse during his last few days. He was such a great man and person. We bonded over the fact we were both from the Poughkeepsie area and graduates of Arlington High School. It was truly an honor and a pleasure to have gotten to know such a genuinely good person. I was shocked and devastated when I heard of his passing. I'm glad he is in a better place an no longer suffering. Steven and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.
