Vincent DiGregorio Obituary

Vincent F.

DiGregorio, Sr.

Town of Poughkeepsie, NY - Vincent F. DiGregorio, 87, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2017 with his loving wife by his side.

He was born in Wappingers Falls, NY, on September 23rd, 1929, son of the late Antonio and Antoinette DiGregorio. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Matilda "Tillie" DiGregorio, two sisters, Adeline Proctor and Joan Laffin, his daughter, Sharon (Michael) Hoffman, his son, Vincent II (Kristin) DiGregorio, seven grandchildren, Michael (Julie) Hoffman, Matthew (April) Hoffman, Vincent III (Kissta) DiGregorio, Corrie Hoffman, Brian DiGregorio, Holly (Adam) Hoffman, and Austin DiGregorio and one great-granddaughter, Stella Hoffman. He is also survived by his nephew and best buddy Joey DiGregorio, his niece Josephine DiGregorio Stainkamp (Richie) and his great niece, Rebecca and her sloppy mushy kisses; along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Vincent was pre-deceased by seven brothers, six sisters and his son, Michael DiGregorio.

Vincent graduated from Wappingers Central High School and went on to enlist in the United States Army on February 16, 1951. Vincent completed basic training at Fort Rucker, Alabama and was transferred to the 24th infantry division of the United States Army. He went on to serve his country in Korea as a 75mm recoiled rifle operator in the heavy weapons company. He was then stationed in Japan until 1953 when he was transferred to the United States Army Reserves and returned to the states; where he met the love of his life at the snake pit in Wappingers Falls. Vincent was honorably discharged in 1956 and married his cheap one drink date, Tillie on April 15th, 1956.

Vincent was employed by Schatz Federal Bearing in Poughkeepsie for 25 years as a toolmaker before the company closed. Vincent retired in 1994 after 10 years of service with IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY. He spent the remainder of his life enjoying time with his family.

Vincent was a life-long communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wappingers Falls, NY. He was an avid Mets fan, loved to visit West Point and attend the Hudson Valley Renegades baseball games. But most importantly he was a family man. Vincent's favorite time was spent with his kids, grandkids and a bottle of chianti in a straw basket during holidays and special occasions. He will always be remembered for telling a waitress at a restaurant in Italy, "This is better than the olive garden."

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Vincent's family on Monday, January 30th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Delehanty Funeral Home, 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls. A mass to celebrate Vincent's life will be held Tuesday, January 31st, 11am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 11 Clinton St., Wappingers Falls. Burial will be on Saturday, February 4th, 10am at St. Mary's Cemetery. To send a condolence or for directions, visit www.dele hantyfuneral.com

Sharon, it's been many, many years since i've seen you or your family, but it saddens me to read of your Dad's passing. I remember him, even after all these years. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours at this difficult time. May God bring you peace.
