Hover, Bertha M.

Bertha M." Berdie" Hover, 94, formerly of Newark Valley, passed peacefully away at the Episcopal Church Home in Rochester, NY on November 14, 2015. She has very happily resided there and brought her giving hospitality to many other residents for the past five years. Born on Jan. 12, 1921 in Fremont Township, Michigan, Berdie is a daughter of the late Armond C. and Ruth (Forsythe) Vrooman. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Gerald "Joe" Hover in 1994 and by her siblings, Virgil, Andrew, Sam, Nelson, Ellsworth (Shorty) Vrooman, Alma O'Hart, Irene Doane and Mildred Buchner. She is survived by her dear sister and sister-in-law respectively, Blanche Bartlett and Bea Sutton. Berdie and Joe built their home and raised their family on Franklin Ave. They are survived now by their three children, Joann (Alan) Reinnagel, Robert (Donna) Hover and John (Marcia) Hover. The joys in her life grew to include six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Berdie was a long time employee of NBT Bank in Newark Valley. Her dedication to friends and family will long be remembered. Delivering Meals on Wheels and her famous sugar cookies are also a fond memory of many. Although she shared her recipe, no one could quite duplicate the deliciousness of hers! Family and friends will gather at the MacPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley on Saturday, November 21 from noon until 1 o'clock at which time Deacon Warren Rutan, her former neighbor and dear friend, will officiate at a Funeral Service and Celebration of Her Life.
