Charles Hickin Obituary
CHARLES W. R. HICKIN, SR
of VestalRejoice for I am in Heaven with God, my Father. I have completed, on Thursday, July 26, 2001, the trip I started upon in 1993 when I approached the gates of Heaven but was turned around before I entered. I leave behind my lovely, caring wife, Janet, who did so much for me all the years I had heart disease. I also leave four children and their spouses, Chuck and Theresa Hickin, Jr., Sue and Kirk Kneller, Jim and Wendy Hickin, and Brenda and Mike Kosydar; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer and Kira Kosydar, Brooke, Lauren and Daniel Kneller, Danielle, Kristine and Brian Hickin, Jordan, Noah and Caleb Hickin; three step grandchildren, Kellie, Phillip and Bethany; my brother, sisters and their spouses, Alice M. and Jim Kuhn, Gwendolyn M. and Ed Hanson, Gerald D. and Sue Hickin. My mother and father, Wyndham Robinson and Ina May Hickin predeceased me in 1959 and 1984. I had a long and interesting career, which included the USN Air Force (flying off the aircraft carrier, USS WASP as a radar operator); graduating with a BSEE from The Pennsylvania State University, 1958 (Honorary Societies: Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu); and 32 years with the General Electric Company at Erie Pa., Utica, Ithaca and Johnson City, N.Y. I was a graduate of Harborcreek High School (1949) in Pennsylvania. The highlight of my career was leading the team that developed the Electronic Cockpit Display System for Boeing's New Airplane Program and Leading various Display Committees for General Electric and the Society of Automotive Engineers (an international committee that develops display standards for the aircraft industry). I taught Sunday school for 20+ years at St. Paul's (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial United Methodist Churches. I served on a number of committees at Sarah Jane. I was a founding officer (Vice President) and an Executive Director of the local chapter 262 of the Mended Hearts Incorporated located at Wilson Regional Hospital. I worked with the Hospital personnel to establish the Open Heart Visitation program. And together with Marcia Erle and Mary Newby, we established the program to aid the families of the patients undergoing Open Heart Surgery. I enjoyed Geneganslet Lake, having spent summers there with my family and many friends for over 30 years. I served as President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Geneganslet Lake Association. I leave not only my family, but also many wonderful friends and relatives. I've enjoyed you all, I pray that each of you are Godly people and that we will all meet again, with God in His heavenly kingdom. Rejoice, for parting is sad, the reward of Heaven is overwhelming. So goodbye until we meet once again in God's Heavenly kingdom.Chuck.
