I was looking for the guys I played basketball with at Hiram Scott College back in the 60´s. I was so sorry to read of his passing. Isiah was a great player and friend. He was funny and caring. He was a big reason why we were so successful. Although it´s been a few years, I treasure the memories I have of him.

To Isiah´s family, I send my deepest condolences.

Isiah was a legend in his High School days and I heard of his reputation. We played at a time of separate schools in view of the Plessey vs Ferguson decision of separate but equal. I was a senior at Jesuit and he was the star at St. Augustine. I went to Georgetown and we played in the Philadelphia Palestra but against St. Joe's not LaSalle. I played for the Buccaneers and when they cut me, they signed Isiah. I wish I could have had the chance to play against him but all respect.

I was researching the basketball heroes of the past and I remember Isaiah King of St. Augustine in the LIANO in the days of separate but equal in the country. He was the star and legend of the black community and I was the star of Jesuit High School. He went to LaSalle in Philadelphia and I went to Georgetown in D.C. We both played shortly for the New Orleans Buccaneers, the ABA team. I wonder sometimes if we had the opportunity to play each other at Rosenwald Playground on Earhart Street. Different times, different world. Jesuit accepted black students my senior year in 1963, years before anyone else. Marc Morial transferred from St. Aug to Jesuit and was a distinguished graduate and later mayor. I see you had a beautiful family with your wife of 50 years, God Speed my basketball friend.

My condolences to the family of Ike King. I first met Ike when he was playing adult basketball and I was a young referee. He had great talent, was smarter than most other players, and was good to work with whether he got the call his way, or not. He truly respected the game. As a parent, I enjoyed the time when I watched Luanna play high school basketball.
