John Vasina Obituary
John Francis Vasina, born October 25, 1919, left this earth peacefully on Friday, October 14, 2016. He was predeceased by his wives, Margaret, 1957 and Mary, 2011 and his daughter, Liz Susko, 2001. He is survived by his children, Charlotte Tinkunas, Mary (Jim) Tanner, Jack (Jill) Vasina, Margie (Joe) McCarthy and grandchildren: Shelly, Mark, Mike, Jim, Chris, Wally, Heather, Steve, Danielle and Katelyn; also 17 great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Binghamton High School and attended Furman University in South Carolina. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic. He worked at Endicott-Johnson Shoe Corp. and retired from Ozalid. He was a self-taught artist who also enjoyed golfing with family and hunting and fishing in his free time. Most of all, he loved going to Valero to do scratch-offs with Charlotte. For the kindness shown, we would like to thank the Seton 1 staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Thanks for the beautiful memories, Dad (DeDe). You will be greatly missed.
A funeral mass will be offered Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at SS Cyril and Methodius Church, 148 Clinton St., Binghamton. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Slovak Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing please do something nice for someone else in John's memory.

To all of Mr. Vashina's relatives, especially my close friends Mary and Jack (& Jill), my condolences at your dad's passing. Having known him for more thsn 50 years, I always enjoyed his company and humility. He was a great person and the world would be better if there were more like him. He had a great life, leaving a wonderful family behind, but all will be reunited with him someday. Don't be sad, but rather take comfort in the memories you had with him. May God bless all of the family and, Mr. Vashina, Rest-in-Peace in God's honds.

(Great)Uncle John was one of the kindest and gentlest men I've ever known. I will never forget many fond memories of back yard bbq's with him and Aunt Mary while growing up. I pray my son Jack will grow up to be like him. Rest in peace Uncle John and don't forget to say "hi" to Aunt Mary and my dad for me!
