Michael Bashta Obituary

Michael was born in Auburn, NY and immediately moved to the new family home on Circle Rd. in North Syracuse where he did all the things that boys do. He enlisted in the US Army at a young age and did two tours in Vietnam at Pleiku. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Eventually he settled in Binghamton, NY. He was a Journeyman electrician throughout his life until illness prevented him from working. A regular Inspector Gadget, he enjoyed building, crafting and tinkering. He was predeceased by his parents, Mike Bashta and Barbara Armstrong; several aunts & uncles, a nephew and his in-laws. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Denise Grant; children, Misty, Christian and Dennis; a sister, Donna Klein and her husband Don, who he considered a beloved brother; sister, Ginny Roth; and nephews, Josh Klein and Sam Roth; as well as the Grant clan and his comrade, Terry Yakle. He will also be deeply missed by his loyal companions, Ladybug, Sara and Uma. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at 4 p.m. (Please Note Change) from the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main St., Endicott, NY. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial donations may be made to SPEAK, 351 Flint Rd., Binghamton, NY 13905.

I remember a night of noise and chaos at the Pleiku ASP. Michael paid no attention to the tracers and explosions as he performed his communication duties by radio. It was July 20, 1969, the night a man landed on the moon. I wish we had the time and opportunity to become friends but the circumstances of our meetings did not permit that. He was a good soldier, somewhat laid back but more than competent at his job. It is with great sorrow that I missed knowing him better. A fine soldier, a good man, a great loss. Rest in peace Sergeant Bashta. God bless you.

Denise and family...Michael was a truly wonderful, gifted man - "one of my guys". Although it seemed to be such a brief time that I knew him, the time spent actually was so like a life time of conversations. He leaves us all with wonderful memories.

Gifts
Life is perplex, happy and sad,
No promises or blessings owed.
Living is sacred good with bad,
Entangled minds ordained bestowed.
Earth is not our prison burrow,
Experience we can be told.
A declaration we unfurl,
Love is a challenge in its fold.

Humanity will continue,
In family and other blends,
Memories become the venue,
It is the method that transcends.
Our eloped nature of Spirit,
Is hidden in a much greater goal
Important is not the forfeit,
But what we gifted through our soul.

Denise & family... my deepest sympathy to you with the passing of Michael. Michael and I served our country in the Pleiku, Vietnam area at the same time but in different units. His recent painful days are now over, replaced by the grace of our Lord and fond memories left to his family and friends. Respectfully...

Did not know Mike, but served in Vietnam at the same time he did and in the Plieku area. He showed a lot of courage to do as he did and I am shure HE is looking after him, now. Gone in body but not in spirit.

Denise, Mike was a "brother" thru the Pleiku Pals, and I just wanted to express my sympathy to you and the family on his passing. I enjoyed reading his posts and considered him a "friend that I hadn't met face to face yet". I'll keep him and you in my thoughts and prayers. Andy Anderson - a fellow Vietnam Vet.
