Mildred Zimmer Obituary

Mildred Zimmer

Chenango Bridge, NY. - Mildred (Millie) M Zimmer (Zulko) March 23, 1925 - December 10, 2020

Mildred passed on peacefully to dance again with her husband Carl who predeceased her on August 29, 2013. They met and fell in love while working for Ansco. She was born in Barnesboro, PA to Mary Salley and John Zulko Sr.

Millie lovingly dedicated her life to her family. She became an expert seamstress and designer of baton twirling costumes for her daughter Joyce and was an enthusiastic cheerleader for her son Chuck who played football at Chenango Valley High School. With her grandchildren, Colleen and Danny, she also enjoyed traveling to be spectators at their activities. During this time she continued to work either at Philadelphia Sales, Link Aviation or Dover. Her extended family remembers her fondly for bunny cakes with her famous icing and now her great granddaughters enthusiastically make them. Her apple pies, halupki and kolachki were loved by all during the holidays. Millie's cooking skills inspired her son Chuck to follow in her footsteps to choose being a chef as his career.

She and her husband Carl were members of the German Club. They both were in the award winning German Club choir and Millie enjoyed cooking German food for the banquets at the club. She also volunteered for events at the former St. Catherine of Siena Church in Hillcrest.

For years Millie was the primary caregiver for her husband Carl who had Alzheimer's. They then moved into St. Louise Manor and later to Elizabeth Church where she passed away in comfort. There she had many loving compassionate doctors, aides, staff, caretakers and nurses to whom we are eternally grateful. The entire family expresses a great sense of gratitude toward her son Chuck and his wife Patty for their many years of care during her advanced senior years.

Millie's legacy lives on in her daughter Joyce (Jim) Driscoll of Ann Arbor, MI; son Carl (Patricia) Zimmer of Binghamton; grandchildren Colleen (Greg) Young of Lake Zurich, IL; Daniel (Brianna) Driscoll of Royal Oak, MI; great grandchildren Amelia and Kayleigh Young and Carter Driscoll. She is also survived by her brother Robert (Lou) Zulko and sister Veronica (the late Clyde)Trotter of Conklin and sister-in-law Mary Zulko as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her devoted husband Carl and brother John Zulko Jr.

Services to celebrate Mildred's life are being planned by Wm. R. Chase Funeral Home for a late spring date due to current NYS Covid regulations for entry. Entombment is at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers Mildred's wishes are for donations to be made to St Francis of Assisi in Hillcrest or Alzheimer's Association.

Mildred's loving smile will be dearly missed but will live on in all of our hearts and souls.

Joyce and Chuck,
Thinking of you with love and such fond memories having grown up next door as neighbors and as friends. Your parents were such a sweet couple - & extremely good sports when a ball would break your window or invade the famous Zimmer garden. So happy that your parents are stein - toasting togetherness. A warm hug to you both during this tender time.
Affectionately,
Bob, Nancy, Dana, Colin & Ronne
