Myra Morrison Obituary
of Vestal, NY
Myra A. Morrison, 99, of Vestal, NY, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2009, in Albemarle, NC, where she had been residing. She was born in Oneonta, NY on July 15, 1910, the daughter of John, Sr. and Ethel (Marsh) Shumway. Myra is predeceased by her husband, Otho Morrison; her sisters, Alice Lorenzen, Margaret Brink; and her brother, John Shumway, Jr. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Mary Morrison, Vestal, NY, Robert and Linda Morrison, Albemarle, NC; her eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Elvira Nickels; and several nieces and nephews. Myra was a member of the Vestal United Methodist Church, and was a former member of the Eastern Star Lodge.
A Graveside Ceremony will be held at Tioga Cemetery, Rte. 17c West, Owego, NY, on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing may consider a memorial contribution in memory of Myra to the Vestal United Methodist Church. Please share your memories at www.RichardsFH.com

As a teenager, my first job was at Swain Pharmacy in Vestal. I had the great joy of working with Myra and of meeting Otho. It makes me smile to this day to think of them together. Otho told me that when he met Myra he thought she was the cutest thing he'd ever seen. She snuggled up to him, looked up at him and batted her eyes. I adored both of them. Myra was so kind to me at work and so much fun to be with. I will always think fondly of Myra and Otho. Absolutly delightful, both of them.

Myra cared for my children when they were small - we met at the church - and both needed each other. She was lonely without her husband and I suddenly found myself as a single parent, trying to work. We "saved" each other, I guess. She became a surrogate grandmother to my children and attended birthday parties ( I have some great pictures!) and often stayed for dinner with us. I remember her down on the floor playing GI JOE with my son. She was a kind and loving person and will always be in my heart.
