Nicholas Gabriel Obituary
Nicholas David Gabriel, 25, of Binghamton, NY, died unexpectedly on Tuesday April 4, 2017 after a long struggle. He led a short, vivid, passionate, and challenging life, always surrounded by love and support. He is predeceased by his grandparents Agnes and Armand Gabriel; and Judith and David Eggleston. He is survived by parents Joseph and Amy Gabriel; brother Anthony; sister Mary-Kathryn and her fiancé Ron DeVito as well as a girlfriend Alyssa Burt. Nicholas is also survived by many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Nicholas was a gifted musician who lived life to the fullest. He passionately loved his family and friends and brightened the lives of many in his brief time with us. He will be greatly missed and always loved. The family will receive friends and family at the THOMAS J. SHEA Funeral Home Inc. 137 Robinson St. Binghamton, NY 13904 on Saturday April 8, 2017 from 3:30 until 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Nick's memory to a substance abuse organization of your choosing.

My strongest memory of Nick is when he was in recovery, in the YMCA parking lot, and he gave me a big hug. He looked strong, hopeful, virile. I'm sure his wish would be: to overcome society's stigma and our grief, to help others still suffering from this disease.

Some people seem to be sent to be with us for just a short time, and often it seems they are the most appealing and magnetic people possible. Just look at his 1000-watt smile for a minute and you'll realize that some people are destined to be remembered forever. Maybe this is God's way of reminding us that our journeys never really begin nor end ... but our impact can last longer than we ever dreamed was possible. Please accept our deepest condolences at this most heartbreaking time.
I remember Nick as as a very polite young man who also made me smile. I remember telling him one day as we were in your driveway, either bringing in or taking out band gear, that aside from Josh, he was the only guy who helped the "old granny" (me) load and unload my van and I thanked him profusely. He and I got laughing when he mumbled "old granny, I never heard that before...".
You were an amazing and supportive family to him; he was blessed to have you in his short life, as you were to have him in yours.
