Vilda Bowen Obituary

Bowen, Vilda "Buddy"

Vilda Bowen, age 87 died Saturday, October 14, 2017 after a short illness. She will be missed by her family and friends. Buddy lived her entire life in Endicott. She was employed with IBM Owego until her retirement and made lifelong friends while she was there. She was proud to participate in the Gemini Space project in Hunstville, Alabama. After retirement Buddy traveled extensively. She was always home in November when we would find her at the local polling station where she participated in elections for the Broome County Board of Elections. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church.

Buddy very much appreciated her daughter Marie who moved to Endicott to help with her care. Buddy was able to relax in her later years while Marie cared for the house and gardens for all to enjoy. Buddy could often be seen on the deck relaxing and admiring the flowers. Buddy enjoyed spending time with family and her eyes sparkled and her bright smile displayed the love she felt whenever she saw her grandsons Allan and Rick. Buddy is survived by her two children, Marie Riska, Endicott, NY her son Lester and his wife Susan, Charlton, NY. She leaves behind 2 grandsons Allan Riska, San Francisco, CA and Richard Bowen Charlton, NY.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Vilda's life will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 17 Nanticoke Avenue, Endicott on Friday October 27 with Rev. Dr. Michelle Bogue-Trost officiating. Marie, Lester and the whole family - so sorry for your loss. We thought the world of Buddy. She was always so kind and gentle. And I remember as I was growing up, that she made the best chocolate chip cookies on the planet!

I am so very sorry for your loss.
Buddy and my mother were friends from Central Methodist. She kept an eye on my mom, and would often pick her up or drive her home from the early service at church even though my mother's house was only 2 blocks away. The cute thing was that my mom couldn't hear well, and got it stuck in her head to call her Bunny - and she was so sweet to never correct my Mom. I'm sure they're singing hymns together again now.
God bless your family as you travel these difficult days without her.

Marie & Lester,
So sorry to hear of Aunt Buddy's passing. We know how heart wrenching it is. Mom's create all the happy times for holidays, birthdays, and parties.
Our memories of Aunt Buddy are happy ones, she had a great sense of humor.
We know how Dad appreciated her for their Sr. center lunches together.
She was the last of the Bowen's for that generation.
God Bless her
Love Jane & Carol Bowen
