Beverly Jayne Pratt DELMAS

DELMAS, Beverly Jayne Pratt December 19, 1923- February 3, 2015 Beverly Delmas, 91, passed away peacefully at Aegis Corte Madera following complications from a stroke suffered in April 2014. Born in Johnson City, NY to Elroy and Mildred Pratt, Beverly is survived by her daughter, Jaina Delmas Maier (Kurt), her grandchildren, Rachael and Eric Maier, and numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends who loved her. She was predeceased by her parents and beloved brother, Rex. At 19, Beverly joined the Navy as a WAVE and was stationed in Pearl Harbor during the war. She was a true island girl and sun worshiper. She loved to dance, even joining a hula troupe as the only haole. After serving, Beverly settled in Northern California where she married Peter Delmas and gave birth to Jaina. She and Peter were later divorced. In the late 70s, she moved to Cotati where she grew to love open space, fresh air, and country living. She was an animal lover who adopted many dogs and cats over the years, in addition to taking care of sheep, horses, and even an ostrich! She and husband Stan Bierwith loved to entertain and throw theme parties that will be long remembered by friends and family. Bev was a true renaissance woman. Her careers included legal secretary, waitress, restaurant owner, and poodle breeder. She loved to garden, prepare international cuisine, read novels by the fire, lunch and shop with her friends and family, and plan extravagant parties. Some called Beverly the "missing" Gabor sister - elegant, graceful, kind and generous, and always dressed impeccably. After Stan's death, Beverly lived on her own until having a stroke at age 90. She spent six months at Kindred Lucas Valley and then moved to Aegis Corte Madera where she lived out her final days. Many thanks and hugs to the staff at Kindred, Aegis, and Hospice by the Bay for their unwavering care and devotion. Heaven has a special shining light in its midst. Those who love her will miss her immeasurably and will carry her always in our hearts. Beverly will be laid to rest at Fernwood Cemetery in Mill Valley. Services will be private. Donations to the Sonoma County Humane Society or the Marin Humane Society would be appropriate and appreciated.
