Jeffery TERRY Obituary

Born October 27th, 1958 and passed away unexpectedly on August 18th, 2013 at the age of 54. Jeff was a 28 year resident of Santa Rosa and loved living in Sonoma County. Jeff spent his childhood years in San Lorenzo, CA and his teenage years in Pleasanton, CA where he graduated from Amador Valley High School in 1976. Jeff moved to Santa Rosa in 1985 and spent many years in the mortgage industry before changing careers. The last 15 years he was employed by AT&T in Rohnert Park. Jeff's love for baseball resonated throughout his life. From playing baseball as a kid in Little League, to high school baseball, adult baseball teams and eventually becoming an umpire for California District 35 Little League, the joy the game brought to him was never ending. He loved the Oakland A's and spent many a summer afternoon at the ballpark with his brothers and children Giorgia and Ian. Jeff's children were his pride and joy. When not at the baseball park, countless days were spent at the soccer field, out at Shell Beach on the Sonoma Coast and hiking at Armstrong Woods. Jeff was strong in his belief of a higher power and his spirituality was an important part of who he was. Jeff is lovingly survived by his children, Giorgia Terry and Ian Terry, both of Santa Rosa, Jim Terry of Hayward, Bob (Becky) Terry of Glendale, AZ, and Scott Terry of San Diego. Jeff is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. Jeff is preceded in death by his father James Robert Terry and mother Vivian Mabel Rodgers. Those who knew Jeff are welcome to attend services and interment on Saturday, August 31, at 12:00 p.m. at Santa Rosa Memorial Park, located at 1900 Franklin Avenue. A celebration of his life will immediately follow. SANTA ROSA MORTUARY EGGEN AND LANCE CHAPEL, 545-3747.

August 20, 2022

...just to add...Jeff, you always called me "Lucky" because I would win when I went to Reno or the horse races. I used to love walking into work with you. I was always in a panic that I would be 1 minute late and get a tardy, for Pete's sake, but you would just calmly stroll in without a worry in the world. Everyone should have the peace that you displayed. Love you, Jeff. Can't believe it's been 9 years!

In loving memory of my Cousin Jeff

"God saw you were getting tired. And a cure was not to be. So he puts his arms around you. And whispered "come to me.". With tearful eyes I read the news, that you have passed away. Although I loved you dearly. I couldn't make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating. Hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us. He only takes the best."

Rest in peace my dear sweet Cousin Jeff.

I was very saddened to hear of Jeff's passing. He was a old neighbor of mine and we had many a good times in the neighborhood back then. My thoughts and prayers go out to Georgia and Ian, and I hope you take comfort in knowing how much he loved you both.

I was in Williamsport, attending the World Series when I was told about Jeff's passing. Jeff was a great friend to me and my players at Westside Little League. He always treated my players and myself with respect when he did our games. I was honored that he did home plate for my 1000th game. He was a good man, and I always enjoyed talking to him about life. Anytime he would see me at a game he was umpiring he would always come over and say hello. I will miss him and be thinking of him next season.

I attended Jeffs services today. I felt the love that he had and I am glad I was able to express my gratitude about him always asking about me. He had a welcoming smile and a kind heart. Ian and Georgia remember he loved you and that love will always remain.

August 31, 2013

I attended Jeff's memorial today and wanted to tell Jeff's family thank you for sharing your memories. His love for Giorgia and Ian was very apparent, and I know he was very proud of you both.

Rest in peace, "Dr. Terry".

I grew up with Scott and we were the annoying little kids to Jeff. But he was one of the "cool" older guys. My fondest memory is when Jeff took us to Great America in the pouring rain. He'd just got his license and Vivian let him take the brand new car. Probably the real reason he agreed to take us, but he was a good sport anyway. Although it's been a long time since we saw each other he has always been one of the good guys to me.

Dos Equis may claim to have "the most interesting man in the world!", but the Jeff Terry I knew would rank a pretty close second. What a unique guy! Jeff and I worked together for a while, we were room mates for about four years, and we served as Best Men at each other's weddings. He and I got along well, maybe because we had a lot in common (both 'Jeff's', both left handers, both scorpios, etc.). The Jeff I knew was an original outside the box thinker, with knowledge in an amazingly broad range of subjects. His conversational skills were legendary: he could carry on conversations with knowledgeable people on virtually any subject, while always coming across as both intelligent and well informed. He was a great listener too (which is rare). Most of the time he would be agreeable in discussion, but he sure knew how to debate when he wanted to. Many times he and I stayed up late into the night embroiled in what we considered to be deep and profound conversations.

Unfortunately, life happens, and Jeff and I drifted apart, mostly due to families, careers, and geography. Sadly, we hardly saw each other these past 20 years. That doesn't lessen the love I had for my dear friend. I just think that in the book that was Jeff's life, I was only intended to be featured in the middle chapters. He and God had other plans for rest of the book. I am just honored to have been a friend to this great man that I knew.

August 29, 2013

Just wanted to add a p.s. ... I was very saddened to learn of Jeff's sudden passing and I will always remember three things in particular about my wonderful friend. First and foremost, he loved his children more than life itself. Secondly, he always was able to make me smile; no matter what the situation and 3. I'll never understand how he could wear shorts and short-sleeved shirts year around (even when the temperature dipped down to the 30's!). My love and prayers go out to Giorgia and Ian. I feel as if I know you both because you were in just about every chat we had..and that is a GOOD thing! He loved you dearly and my heart goes out to you both. Stay strong in the good memories.. Love, Janet Tompkins (aka "Shorty") - Rohnert Park

August 29, 2013

Jeff and I began working at Pacific Bell in 1998. I admired him as a person as well as his dedication to his children and the sport of baseball. Not really sure why, but he always called me "Shorty"... and I called him Jef fa fa! I will miss him dearly. Janet T.

I met Jeff at work back in the day when we all worked at Mervyn's in Dublin. That is where I also met my husband who is also named Jeff. The two Jeff!s were roommates together in Pleasanton. We all had so many fun times together.Jeff was the best man at our wedding and my Jeff was his best man when he married Teresa. Jeff had a saying which was "You didn't know that"when he told a story. I still laugh about that all these years later.Jeff we will always cherish our times together and we love you. Rest in Peace dear friend. You will be missed.

A friend, brother-in-law and not so good as a lefty golfer... I met JT back at high school during Amador baseball. He was so competitive, but fair. We use to play lots of golf back in the day an argue after each hole about our stroke count. At the end of 18 holes it didn't matter because our scores were nothing to brag about so off to the 19th hole we would go! JT was extremely smart, funny and always had positive words of encouragement.
You will be missed JT

Such a sudden and tragic loss. Jeff and I grew up together, and as cousins shared many memorable adventures in San Lorenzo, Pleasanton, San Francisco and all around the Bay Area. I'll always have fond memories of our times talking politics, baseball and philosophy. Ian and Giorgia: your dad was a wonderful man and I know he's proud of you today. Hoping he rests in peace with his mom and dad.

Jeff you will be missed by many. Your laughter and smiles could always brighten a room. I have many years of memories spent at SRALL with you. Whether we we talking kids or baseball your love for both was always clear. Matthew loved having you behind the plate when he pitched. Good or bad game you were always there with an encouraging word. Little league will never be the same without you. Your time here was way too short but You have left an incredible legacy for your children. One that you should be very proud of. My love and prayers go out to your family. They have so much to be proud of. Blessings

I worked with Jeff at AT&T for 12 years, and knew him from before. I will miss hearing stories about how proud he was of his kids, the good old days before AT&T, our shared love of music, how good he smelled, and him always calling me Kitty Kat Girl... We went to an Eddie Money Concert, and had a ball singing and dancing, as well as enjoying the music of our co-worker, Dave Kemper's Band in the past. A true Gentleman, and friend to all who knew and loved him. I will miss his great Hugs, but Always in our Hearts with Love...

Jeff was a great guy, even though I had seen him for 25 years. Knew him and played baseball with him in Pleasanton. Briefly we were roommates in our early 20s, with Jeff Hendersen and Jeff Rainey (the three Jeffs), and enjoyed his company. He liked Bowie, as I recall. A good conversationalist, he could speak on many different topics with intelligence and insight. Generally the kind of guy you could spend time with--he was engaging. When I think of him I only have good things to say, a bit of a dark side, edgy, but a really warm and wonderful person and someone you could count on. Will miss him.

Dear Giorgia & Ian, I also worked with your dad and am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. When I think of him I will always remember his sense of humor, he always made me laugh. He once took me to a David Byrne concert, and he had a blast, singing and dancing in the aisles. It was great being with him outside of work and seeing him have so much fun. I think your dad had a very full life with the two of you being his greatest accomplishments. He certainly will be missed by all. Bridget Peterson
