John Walsh Obituary

John Vincent Walsh
December 1, 1962 - January 3, 2025
John Vincent Walsh was born in San Francisco on December 1, 1962 and died January 3, 2025 in Sacramento at the age of 62. He was in and out of the Mather VA Hospital under the care of supportive staff for the last 7 years. He was the son of John Dennis Walsh (ret. SFFD, USMC) and Barbara June Walsh, and brother of Lenore Grace and James J. Faso. He grew up in San Francisco and lived most of his life in Sonoma County. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1981 and served for twenty years, retiring as a Boatswain's Mate Chief Petty Officer (BMC) in 2001. He received the Humanitarian Service Medal for his role in the Coast Guard rescue team for the 1986 Merry Jane boat tragedy in Bodega Bay. He retired as the Coast Guard Island Chief of Security in Alameda. After retiring, he oversaw several Sonoma County Veterans Memorial Buildings over the course of ten years. He was a caring and supportive uncle, brother and son, who loved the San Francisco 49ers, his mom's cooking, golf, and all things Irish. His wit, charm and appreciation of food at family gatherings will be dearly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife, Mona Liza Felisarta Walsh; brother, Joe (Patty) Walsh; nieces, Angela (children, Kiarah and Adarah) Tejeda; Marissa Walsh (Brian) (son, Conor) Keaney; Lisa (Rob) (children, Brandon, Nicholas and Samantha) Kay; nephews, Ryan Walsh; James (Janice) Faso and Mike (Amber) Faso; cousins, Dave (Diane) Garcia; Charlesetta Henderson, Carlene Mac Donald; Maureen (Ken) Hartje; Steve (Michele) Kadlecik; Joan Ratto; Jean Korn and Dave (Jen) Ratto. Services will be private. Donations may be made in John's name to the Coast Guard Foundation (coastguardfoundation.org).
