We are saddened to announce the passing of Enrique "Rick" Lopez, age 65. The former Cloverdale resident passed away peacefully after a long battle with early onset Alzheimer's in Richmond, VA on August 6, 2021 shortly after his immediate family and siblings said their goodbyes.
Rick was born on December 15, 1955 to Ricardo Sr. and Vidalina Lopez in Villalba, Puerto Rico. The family moved shortly after to San Francisco before moving to Cloverdale, CA in 1961. Always active and engaged in the community; he coached his own children and hundreds of others in Little League, Ponytail softball, CYO basketball, summer league basketball, Pop Warner Football, and youth soccer. Rick also served as Cubmaster (Boy Scouts), as a member of the Cloverdale Lions Club, and was elected by the community as a Trustee to the Cloverdale Unified School District's Board of Directors.
He enjoyed his work as a youth and high school sports official with the North Coast Officials Association, Oregon Athletic Officials Association, Central Coast Athletic Association, and Northern California Officials Association.
Rick enjoyed his trips to the horse race tracks and casinos. He also enjoyed thoroughly destroying all comers in Mario Kart and Wii Sports, with particular dominance in fencing, frisbee golf, bowling, and basketball.
He is survived by his wife, Josie; two children, Eric (Melissa) Lopez and Liz (Chris) Young; two grandchildren; brothers Jose Lopez, Ricardo "Tito" Lopez Jr., and Edwund "Ed" Lopez; sisters Wanda Rodriguez and Annette Brockway. He was preceded in death by his parents.
