Ruth Redfern Obituary
November 11, 1939 - August 5, 2024
Ruth Lanfear Redfern, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away Aug. 5, 2024, at the age of 84 surrounded by family. Ruth was born in San Fransisco to Marguerite Kaufmann Olin and Raymond Lanfear. She grew up in Santa Cruz where she graduated from SCHS in 1957. She then went on to graduate from Hartnell College in Salinas with a degree in accounting. At Hartnell she met her future husband, John Redfern and married July 1, 1960. Early years were spent in Capitola, Salinas, and Novato before relocating to Petaluma 47 years ago. Over the years Ruth worked for Santa Cruz County, CPA firms, and Skoff Trucking in Petaluma. Summers were spent in Jackson Hole and traveling the US. Retiring in 1997, a South American cruise around the horn inspired many more cruises. Ruth is survived by husband John, daughter Michele, son Michael, grandchildren, Emily, Robert, Eleanor, her brother Ray. Ruth was predeceased by her brothers Fred Olin, and Stanley Lanfear, and her sisters Ruby Mielich and Roberta Bacher. A service will be held Aug. 19th at noon in Petaluma at Calvery Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the ALS Association.

We have very fond memories of Ruth as she was our daughter's Mother-in-law and a treasured family member. A fun first memory of her was at a family outing when we discovered we were both wearing the exact same Eddie Bauer flannel shirt, back in 1995. I still wear mine! :)

I have fond memories of Mrs. Redfern. Growing up next door at the KOA, I befriended Michele. We would frequently cross our fingers behind our backs when we asked Mrs. Redfern if we could have a sleepover in hopes she would say yes!! So many memories of playing in the Redfern's yard and eating fresh vegetables straight from the garden. Condolences to Michael and Mr. Redfern.
