Betty Gibbel Obituary

BETTY GIBBEL
Betty was born in San Diego, California. The daughter of a military father, she was constantly on the move in her youth. While stationed in Hawaii, she watched the planes as they flew to bomb Pearl Harbor. She met her husband Richard Gibbel at Redlands College, and they moved to Hemet after graduating.
Betty was a teacher at Hemet High School before retiring to raise her three boys. Never having lost her passion for education, Betty would go on to serve on the Riverside County Board of Education for 33 years; serving as President several times. During that time, she also represented Riverside County to the state of California for Region 19. The Betty G. Gibbel Regional Learning Center at Mt. San Jacinto Community College was named after her for Betty's years of service and dedication to education. Betty's background in education prepared her for a job in public relations at EMWD - educating the public in water conservation. Her passing was peaceful, free of pain and dignified. She lived a long life, full of experiences and love.
A memorial service will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Miller-Jones Mortuary located at: 1501 W. Florida Ave., Hemet, CA 92543. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to: Riverside County Office of Education , C/O Betty G. Gibbel Regional Learning Center, 3939 Thirteenth St., Riverside CA 92501.

Bless Betty & family. She was my favorite teacher in high school and the mother of exceptional kids. I'm saddened by her passing but know for sure she's surrounded by angels.
