Clarence Junior "C.J." Powell

1929 - 2023

Dec. 20, 1929 - April 27, 2023 Son of Jesse and Clarence Powell of Menlo, Iowa. CJ grew up in Iowa working on the family farm. He joined the United States Marine Corp at age 17. He was sent to Korea ...was one of the Chosen-few that survived in the Reservoir. He served multiple tours overseas including service in Vietnam. During his military career, he achieved Expert Marksman and he received multiple commendations and awards. My Dad was a very proud Marine and carried that with him his entire life. He retired as Master Gunnery Sargent in 1968 after proudly serving for 22 years. He went on to be a State Humane Officer for the next 5 years. He followed that by working with the Camp Pendleton PX system to rebuild and expand the buildings and facilities. My Dad and Mom were able to retire early and spent many years traveling the country in their motor homes. He loved fishing and was great at it in lakes and the ocean. He was also an avid gardener. Additionally he was a proud lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. CJ was a resident of Hemet and the Homeland area for over 40 years and truly loved the area. He is survived by his daughter Diane Sackett and son-in-law Dr. Michael Sackett, grandchildren JP Sackett, Tricia Martin, and her husband Andrew Martin, great grandchildren Brian and Andrea Martin and JJ Sackett; his Iowa family, his sister Alice, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at Hemet Valley Mortuary, 403 N. San Jacinto Street, Hemet, CA 92548 June 5th, 10 am followed by his Military service at Riverside National Cemetery at 2:15 pm. All are welcome!
