Ralph Torn Obituary

RALPH TORN (89) Born in Boyle Heights. Survived by children Linda Torn (Erica), Marsha Prymmer (George), Michael Wright (Sue), daughter-in-law Nancy Torn, grandchildren Nick (Amy), Alexa, Jess, Sarah, Samantha, Ben, & Rafe, great-granddaughters Julia & Zoe, and brother Milt (June). Predeceased by wife Norma (d.1962), sons, Steve & Howie, and wife Adele (d. 2000). Ralph was a produce broker for 61 years and with his wife Adele, owned Torn Ranch in Lake Elsinore. Ralph graduated Roosevelt High in Los Angeles and attended USC. In the 50s and 60s he was active in local politics in Elsinore and was a member of the Elsinore School Board, the Riverside Community College Board, and was a Boy Scout leader. We will remember Ralph for his sense of humor and his love for family, fairness & food. Ralph had a heightened "BS" detector and little tolerance for phoniness. Ralph's philosophy was "you play the hand life deals you," which enabled him to bear his years of illness with dignity. We will miss him forever. Ralph was a member of Temple Beth El, Riverside. Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2008, 12:00 noon at Olivewood Memorial Park, 3300 Central Ave., Riverside. Donations may be made to Mazon, a Jewish Response to Hunger www.mazon.org or the Obama for President campaign. The family would like to thank Joy Uyelumo, Mavis Achumba, and Finness Ebe for the love and care given to Ralph. Arrangements Entrusted To Acheson & Graham Mortuary (951) 688-1221

Linda, I've been thinking a lot about you lately, for some reason. We haven't talked in probably 40 years, and I'd love to catch up with you. I remember your dad and Adele both being very welcoming to me whenever we got together.

My memorys of Ralph Torn go back to the days when he and Norma lived on Lincoln St. in Elsinore. My brother Chuck was best friends with Howie and along with his brother Steve we all had a wonderful childhood together. During the 60's and 70's everyone enjoyed great times at the Torn Ranch. Pleasant memorys reflect the true nature of Ralph Torn. Condolences to the family from Carl and Nancy Shafer.
