Mr. Alexander Pitt Jr., 77, formerly of 1415 Hanover St., Petersburg, Va,, departed this life on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at North West General Hospital, Randallstown, Md.
He was born in Rocky Mount, N.C. on Feb. 14, 1930 to the late Alexander Pitt Sr. and Teolia Pitt. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bennie Pitt, and niece, Deborah Johnson-Berryman.
Mr. Pitt attended public schools in Petersburg and graduated from Peabody High School. After graduation in 1948, he began his military career in the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. He served numerous years overseas, with two years tour of duty in Vietnam. He was honored with two Purple Hearts. He retired completely from the military in 1974.
Mr. Alexander Pitt is survived by his loving and devoted sister, Lillie Pitt Hyde, Baltimore, Md.; two wonderful nephews, George Johnson Jr. and Bruce Johnson, both of Baltimore, Md.; two great-nieces, Carisa Johnson-Hardy of Norfolk, Va. and Carmen Johnson of San Antonio, Texas; four great-nephews, Melvin Powell, Blake Johnson, Baltimore, Md., Tyrone Johnson, all of Randallstown, Md. and Bruce Johnson Jr., of Atlanta, Ga.; one great-great niece, Nikkel Powell of Baltimore, Md.; two great-great nephews, Owen Hardy Jr. and Landon Hardy of Norfolk, Va.; two aunts, Rebecca Walston of Philadelphia, Pa., Mary Rose Pitt of Pine Top, N.C.; three cousins, Patricia Booker and Janet Pitt-Seward, both of Petersburg, Va., and Joyce Lambert of Philadelphia Pa.; a special friend, Mr. Sunny Lynch of Petersburg, Va., a friend of 50 years, Mrs. Ann Jones and Tammy Jones, both of New York City, N,Y,; a host of cousins and other relatives.
The family acknowledges with much thanks and appreciation his personal physicians, the staff of North West General Hospital, Randallstown, Md., Best Care Assisted Living and Cherry Wood Rehabilitation, Reisterstown, Md.
A service of love and remembrance will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, Va. Pastor Pernell A. Simms, pastor of Hickory Run Baptist Church, Rawlings, Va., officiating. Interment to follow in Dinwiddie Memorial Park with full military honors.
