You don't know me, because I left VA after graduating from college in 1978. Your father / grandfather was a true man of God and the yardstick against whom all other pastors I've ever known in my life are measured. He was the minister at Bermuda Hundred Methodist Church in the early 70s, when I was going through my confirmation class. His sense of humor, bold faith and everyday example of love in action has stayed with me all these years later. In 1990, after having been away from VA and out of the US for several years, I asked him to perform the marriage ceremony for my husband and me, which he did with characteristic love, joy and graciousness. Today, as I am greatly disturbed and spiritually troubled by political events tearing at our country, I thought of him and knew he would have wisdom to share and words of comfort and faith. I am so very sorry to learn that that the world has lost his warm and loving presence. Your grief must be very deep, indeed, and I share some of that with you. Heaven is surely rejoicing with him now. Sorry for the long message, but I wanted you to know that he touched many lives in ways he never knew. May God bless you in your time of sorrow.

A friend of many years, actually one of the men God used to encourage me to enter the ministry. What wonderful memories of those Summers when Carl, Gwen and the awesome folks from Trinity would bless us on the Eastern Shore including being some of the best builders Habitat For Humanity ever had! Many memories of great times at Camp Occahonaock. To all of us who loved him, Carl was truly a treasure. Rejoice old friend as the Master says those well earned words, "faithful one, enter into the joy of you Master!"
