DARIUS COX Obituary

Mr. Darius Bradford Cox, "Big D", departed this life suddenly Tuesday night, April 9, 2013. He was born Aug. 31, 1992, in Beaufort, S.C.

Darius was baptized and joined St. Peter's RZUA Church at an early age. He attended Dinwiddie County High School. He loved sports and was an avid fan of the Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Falcons. He possessed a special love, affection and competitive edge for playing Madden and 2K. This became an avenue for special bonding time with his friends and he spent numerous hours doing so. Darius was a loving son, brother, grandson, father, nephew, cousin and friend. His special love for his family & friends, sense of humor and contagious smile will be missed by all. Darius has left us too soon, but the loving memories of him will forever live in our hearts.

He is survived by his parents, retired gunnery Sgt. Wilkie B. Cox Sr. and Sharon E. Cox, one devoted & loving brother, Wilkie B. Cox Jr. "BJ", all of Petersburg; grandmother, Helen E. Bradford (Albert) of South Chesterfield; grandfather, Nathan A. Bradford Sr. of Petersburg; daughters, Lauryn Jae Cox & Darionna Cox; aunts, Lynn Wyche of South Chesterfield, and Bertha B. Alexander of Holly Springs, Miss.; uncles, Leon Bradford (Marie) of Durham N.C., Calvin Bradford (Jacelyn) of Chester, Nathan A. Bradford Jr. of Petersburg, Lawrence Cox (Linda) of Aurora, Ill., Robert Cox (Dorothy) of Holly Springs, Miss., Levi Cox, and Grayland Cox of Holly Springs, Miss., and Henry Martin of Holly Springs, Miss.; three nephews, Aiden Cox, T'mon Cox, and Jailen Cox; godsister, Raven E. Banks; a goddaughter, Jahlaiya Smith. Darius is also survived by a host of loving great-aunts, uncles, cousins, family members and friends; devoted and special friends to include, Keyona Bell, Yasmine Wilson, Alexis Parker, Sophia Wiggins, James Manson, Jaeon Chavis, Ronald Jordan, Trent Wiggins and Cadero Manson.

A service celebrating Darius' life will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Petersburg, with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs Sr., officiating, and the Rev. Alvera Perrish, eulogizing, pastor of the St. Peters RZUA Church. Burial will follow at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park. Mr. and Mrs. Cox,

Please accept my sincerest condolences. Please lean on family and friends as they will help get you through. I know there are no right words at this time but I hope in time these may help. I was told this about 2 years ago with the death of my son and I find some comfort in it and hope you will too –“Remember he was full of life and would want you to keep living so make him proud. Every day you live is one day closer to seeing his smiling face and he would want you to live those days to the fullest.” You are in my thoughts and prayers.

To the Cox family. I am so sorry for your loss. Darius and my son went through together. My mother volunteered in Darius' Kindergarten class and her first day she came home and told me that even though she knew she wasn't supposed to have favorites, she had met her favorite and it was Darius. Mr. and Mrs. Cox: I was fortunate enough to meet Darius in elementary school, at Midway. Your son was one of the first friends I ever had, and even though we grew apart as we got older, I look back on our time together and the things he showed and taught me about the joys of life with nothing but fondness. Your family is in my thoughts during this difficult time. Darius was an extraordinary young man, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
