My thoughts are prayers are with the Bland family. I was in Mrs. Bland's shorthand class back in the early 80's at JSRCC. I have often thought of her in the last 20+ years. What fond memories of a wonderful teacher.

I sent a card to the hospital which I wanted the family to read to Ms. Bland. The card was returned to me. I will be sending the card to the family this week.

Ms. Bland was a real pioneer for employees in the Business Division at JSRCC. She nurtured her peers and students. I can see her walking real fast to her next class as only she could walk (smile).

Ms. Bland, because of you I excelled not only at JSR but everywhere God sends me to "teach/train".

Thank you Creator/Emmanuel/Omega..the beginner and ender of this journey (we call life) for creating
Doris A. Richardson Bland, a soft- spoken,intelligent,beautiful,caringspirit.

Enjoy your new eternal home and rank among the ancestors on whose shoulders I stand.

The First Baptist Church – Board of Deacons
Memorial Resolution
For
Sister Doris R. Bland

The Board of Deacons of First Baptist Church remits this Memorial Resolution to the family of Sister Doris R. Bland.

WHEREAS, it is recorded in the book of Acts 20:35, “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Our dear sister and friend Doris R. Bland was a compassionate and consummate giver. Doris served faithfully, fruitfully, lovingly, fearlessly and faultlessly as First Baptist Church Financial Secretary, fiscal steward and fiduciary caretaker for many years.

WHEREAS, in her service, she demonstrated in a remarkable way the Five F’s of Friendship: FAITHFUL FRUITFUL FUNLOVING FEARLESS and FAULTLESS.

To Deacon Eugene Bland and the Bland Family, A friend must be faithful; one who is loyal and true, one who can be depended on in every situation. Many good friendships last for years, span distances, and survive changes. Faithful is the friend who stands by through joy and sorrow never wavering, but always being there when you need a friend.

Friendship is fruitful. There are rewards to both the friend and the one befriended. When you perform deeds of friendship you sow seeds of kindness, Doris sowed seeds of kindness, which reaped rich rewards. The Bible says in Galatians 6:7, “You reap whatever you sow.” We often think of that in a negative way, but the principle certainly holds true for good seed and good fruit.

Funloving is the next word we are using to describe Doris. Laughter is important. Proverbs 17:22 say “A cheerful heart is a good medicine.” Being able to laugh at ourselves, and make other people laugh, is a gift; Friendships are made rich and rewarding by sharing the gift of laughter.

“Fear not, for I am with you” is spoken of our Lord and his constant presence with us. Oh how great a comfort to be joined by a friend when we are in a fearful situation. True friendship makes us fearless.
No one likes to be criticized. Friends are encouragers, not discouragers.

Faultless is another word we use to describe Doris, a friend always sees the positive but never accents the negative. Be a fault-over looker instead of a faultfinder and you will be a friend like Doris and have many friends.

NOW, THEREFORE, We have described Doris, through the Five F’s of friendship:
FAITHFUL, FRUITFUL, FUNLOVING, FEARLESS and FAULTLESS.
May each of us remember with a new commitment to true friendship. “A friend loveth at all times.”

BE IT RESOLVE, That through this Memorial Resolution, never to forget our Friend, our Sister and Member of First Baptist Church, remitted the Twenty-Ninth day of August in the Year of 2007, to the family of Sister Doris R. Bland.

Given on behalf of the Board of Deacons of First Baptist Church
