MINNIE YOUNG Obituary

Mrs. Minnie Irene (Smith) Young was born August 29, 1929, in Fayetteville, N.C. She resided in Gill Haven Manor at 500 Farmer Street in Petersburg, Va. Minnie was the oldest of 20 children.

She was preceded in death by Rowena "Nellie" Smith (mother); Octaveous Smith (father); Frank Albert Young Jr. (husband); and Brenda Dean Kelley (daughter).

Minnie had many jobs over her lifetime such as school guard, waitress, and factory laundry attendant. However, her main job was homemaker to her five children. She is survived by her son and three daughters -- Johnnie (Anna) Nance Jr., Deborah Lee Nance-Jackson, Patricia Ann (Tony) Young-Johnson and Angel (Leonard) Young-Gill. If you knew Minnie, her children were the center of her world.

Minnie was a devout Christian committed to God in all ways. Her faith was exhibited in all that she did and said. Minnie joined and attended various churches in North Carolina, New York, and in her final days Richmond and Petersburg, Va.

Minnie is also survived by her brothers: James Daniel Smith and Floyd Smith of Petersburg, Va.; and her sisters, Thelma Robinson and Margaret Smith of Petersburg, Va.; Nettie Bell Cobbs, Daisy Bain and Janie Smith, all from North Carolina. Other family survivors include Minnie's grandchildren: Iris (Toni) Evans, Angela Evans, Deanna (Lewis) Green, Douglas (Anitra) Evans, Alexis Nance, AriMonet Jackson, Nathias Kayne Antonio, Ebony Desiree Williams; and a host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Services for Mrs. Minnie I. Young will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, Va. Interment at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

The family will assemble at 9:30 a.m. at the establishment the day of the service.

Wake will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2016, at J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc.
