RICHARD HERTZ Obituary

Richard Allen Hertz, Sr., 65, passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 at St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, Virginia.
Richard, affectionately known as ""Ricky"", was born August 6, 1952 in Mobile, Alabama to the late Caleb and Mary Louise Holt Hertz. After graduating from L.B. Williamson High School in 1970, Richard joined the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War and received an Honorable Discharge.
In 1973, Richard married the love of his life Pattie Ann Poke Hertz of Petersburg, Virginia who cherished him and stood by his side until he transitioned to heaven.
Richard was a career Journeyman Pipefitter and proud member of Plumbers & Steamfitters Local Union #10 in Richmond, Virginia for over 37 years.
In 1985, Richard gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ, became an ordained minister and spent over 20 years serving his community. He found great joy in volunteering with Athletes for Jesus, an outreach program in Richmond, Virginia that focused on youth athletes using sports as a platform.
Richard was a magnificent cook and for many years he took pleasure in preparing meals for his family and friends as he loved hosting gatherings. He had a love for cars (especially the Ford Mustang), motorcycles and music. His voice was boisterous, his laughter resounding, and his smile was memorable.
Richard leaves to cherish his wife of 44 years Pattie Ann Poke Hertz, his daughters: Nicole Maldonado (Kenny) of East Bremerton, Washington, Rhonda Hertz Smith of Raleigh, North Carolina; son: Richard Allen Hertz, Jr. (Shannon) of Chesterfield, Virginia; grandchildren: Shaquille Houseal, Jasmine Hertz, Xavier Houseal, Javonte' Collins, Simiaun Kingston, Malcolm Maldonado, Shayna Hertz, Jaydon Mekhi Smith, Francisco Maldonado, Shaniyah Hertz; and great-grandson: Jaiden; his brothers: Caleb Hertz (Gloria), Rudolph Hertz (Helen), and Carl Hertz (Veronica); in-laws: mother-in-law, Shirley Poke, brothers-in-law: John Prince (Lucille), James Thomas, Sr. (Darlene), Horace Poke (Jacqueline), sisters-in-law: Cynthia Poke, Margaret Patterson (John) and a host of nieces, nephews, devoted James Thomas, Jr., other relatives, friends, and beloved dog, Obama.

Richard has done something we all must do. He, did his job, on his Earthly journey. Now he has returned, back to the Creature of all things. Special prayers go out to his Loving/devoted wife Patty. Somethings, you can relate to. I have had to deal with the death of a husband. I never knew Patty, without a Richard. Patty and Richard were a great example of a married couple. I always, said I did not get that anointing of being the perfect wife. It was so obvious, the love they shared. You could see and know, they were married and no one could enter into that area of their life. Patty also will receive her reward, for being a loving and devoted wife. I heard her once say, Richard is always telling me to listen. He is always trying to teach me. He has prepared you, to deal with life without him. You will hear his voice, you will feel his love and understand. He was your lover, Teacher, and Protector. He will always be there to lead and guide you. So Patty as the days go on and you are missing him, smile and hear that voice. Listen, my dear, you have been taught and now it is test time. To the Children and the Grands. You were blessed and loved by a strong man. Test time, and you all will pass , this test called life.

Missing you so much daddy! We love you!

I am glad to have known Mr. Hertz. He was genuine in his interactions and often challenging, but willing to try. What a wonderful experience to have known him, if but for a brief time. My heartfelt sympathy to his wife, Ms. Pattie, and his family. Praying that the great Comforter will provide all that you need during this time and days to come.

Heb 11:4

4By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.
