Deacon Willie Crew, Jr.
Hopewell - Deacon Willie Crew, Jr. son of the late Willie and Lelia Crew was born December 10, 1940 in Chesterfield. He departed this life and entered eternal rest on August 19, 2021. Willie accepted Christ in his life at an early age joining the Brown Grove Baptist Church in Midlothian, where he served as a deacon, choir member. He later joined Union Baptist Church, Hopewell, where he served as a deacon, greeter and a very faithful and dedicated worker of the church. He attended Carver High School in Chesterfield. He was a dedicated worker of Allied Chemical/Honeywell for 31 years. Willie was a former Vice President of the Chesterfield County Quarterback League. Willie enjoyed watching college football and pro-football; and hiss favorited NFL team being the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Willie and Lelia Crew; brothers, Clarence, Raymond and Linwood; and his sister, Margaret, Elsie, Thelma and Marie. Deacon Crew is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 22 years, Florence Graves-Crew; sons, devoted Wille III (Deborah) and Kenneth; daughter, LaNette (Alphonso); step-daughter, Zina Graves; and one brother, Lazarus Crew. He also was a loving and kind father and grandfather to Devon, Dominique, and Dimario Graves; grandchildren, Alonzo, Lorenzo, Brandon, and Marisa (Sheldon); eight great grandchildren; one aunt, Marie Austin; one brother-in-law, Robert Graves, Sr. of Petersburg; one sister-in-law, Sarah Graves of Hopewell; devoted nephew, Lazarus Winston Hamlin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, Rev. Ralph T. Friend, eulogist and Rev. Dr. John Johnson, officiating. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery. J.M.
